Remember the 1980s?

While in high school, I admit I did get a little interested in General Hospital. I took gourmet foods class in HS also to meet girls, and then if I knew something about GH, I could get to talk to some of the girls…..a few….i was still a dork…but at least I enjoyed the food in the gourmet foods glass. Girls and food, not a bad plan for a teenager to meet people.

I was in my early years of college in late 80s, I would hurry to the bookstore to buy a candy bar and rush back to the dorm basement where we would watch Thundercats.
That’s awesome. I was the same way. I was in college in the mid 90’s and in September 1994 , I’d rush back to my dorm to watch X-Men (The Phoenix Saga). Loved it.

Most are about the same. They may have some issued stuff, but most of it is used, not surplus.

Back in the day they were buying sealed crates cases barrels etc. Of actual stuff that was unused and being sold off by the government. Actual surplus. By the 1980’s it was drying up.
What is left there at mine are old gas masks where the goggles are fogged yellow some old ammo boxes, and old German trench shovels and some old green canvas pouches and stuff, the rest is unrelated.

when I made the rounds in the late 80s and early 90s, there was some surplus left but mostly just boonie hats, old gun holsters and a few surplus knives, but you are right, other stuff was being added that were mostly used old stuff, uniforms, coats, or more camping, law enforcement items (nylon stuff with velcro), old buck sheaths, and cheap knife fantasy and knockoffs. Luckily I knew the owner one store and he would make an effort to order modern knives with good name brands, and a few cheap stuff, but I could always find good stuff there. I also still had a great selection of knives at the local hardware store before it was closed. I worked downtown where I could take my lunch break and check out the knives under glass, the man at the counter was a hunter a good old guy. I got Bokers and Case and he actually saved me save some money, I didn’t have enough for tax for the blackjack model 1-7 in leather handle when they came out, I had exactly 70.00 bucks, he told the cashier just to ring it up as miscellaneous with out tax. Still have it.

Sounds like you were a pretty smart young man to me!

The 1980s remembers you.
I remember the days of bins full of "Survival Knives" in drug stores for $5 each.

Guess what?
This one survived.

First of all, my birthday is on the 9th of July! Also, my father still has this knife. I remember examining it when i was young and always unscrewing the handle to check the survival kit inside. Good times!

United Cutlery survival knife from US Calvary!

Ordered for me when I was about 12. I lost all the survival stuff in the kit and my dad had to drill and pin the tang because it got super loose and I don't remember when I broke the tip off and it was probably never sharp *and* I have a scar on my knee where I ripped it open with the saw teeth...

But it didn't rust, the edge didn't roll, and the sheath held up.

4 out of 5 stars!

I spent the 80's on the road in a Top 40 band playing mostly the mid west and southern states. My knife of choice back then was the Swiss Army Tinkerer. For camping and outdoor use I had my dad's M3 Trench knife he brought back from the war. Still have it!

I played mostly bass and a little keys. Played in bands called Island and High Gear. I'm sure you never heard of either unless you happened to see us! We played a lot of hotels back in the day when almost all decent hotels had live entertainment. Those days are gone
