Remember that rope on the beach that my knife failed to cut through thus opening a can-o-worms on here ? Well I'm gonna go back with a couple of different blades today and have another go, I'll report back later !!!

Maybe tin snips or bolt cutters. Maybe it's soft on the outside with a hard uncrunchable inside.

I really wanted that rope!

Don't forget that sailors used to baton thru thick rope.

What's the length and how much d'ya think it weighs?

I still think kevlar center with a polyester or nylon outer. Makes sense to sheath the kevlar since it doesn't like the sun.

Maybe pit could do a pass around with the rope, to see who puts it to the best use...maybe he should send it to the guys who do those knife destruction tests!

Watch out for steel wire. You can injure yourself easily. Ropes used on lobster pots and crab traps can have steel wire inside.

Gawd, this is sad.

So many of us...WANTED that rope...and were silent as it was passed by on the amble.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH US ????!!!???

So onto the rope, I did manage to cut it this time, so which of my knives sailed through ?

Well this is the sharpest knife in my collection and hairs literally jump off my arm when they see it coming......

But I'm afraid when it came to cutting the bloody rope it fared no better than my JK ( John I must apologise now for even thinking that it might have been your knife that was at fault ! ), so which one went through ?????

Yep the good old Vic Swiss Spirit sailed through ! Even now I don't know if the rope being soaked through was the problem ? This just goes to show that serrated blades do have their uses, a while ago I picked a serrated Mora up in a store and put it back, next time I'm there that's gonna be a must have for my PSK !!!!

Man that's a thick hunk of rope  ... and you're right the serrations definitely make a huge difference when it comes to cutting through rope.

Nice pics as always.

Great pics as always pit. I swear if I lived where you do I would try to fish myself to death, that place is gorgeous. Chris

That's pretty tough stuff. Looks like a hawser, used for mooring. Still a bit small for towing purposes:D
