Remember the rope ?

Nice pics! Saw that same sky and sun when I was at Ft. Lewis! I'm so cold right now, a sunburn would be welcome!

Hey PITDOG! that rope is a 1" thick x 24 strand polyester double Braid bull line, used by the chopper loggers to carry the remote log release grapple hook. Normally there is a 12Volt wire spiralling on the outside of the rope, which carries power to a massive ball (weight) and electric grapple hook. The pilot hovers over the tree the faller has partially cut and the claw grabs the tree. The chopper lifts it up, breaking the cut and carrying it to the water. At the water landing the flyboy hits the switch, opening the grapple and releasing the log. That rope will hold 30,000lbs+ static load, more than enough for our West Coast timbers. Occasionally the rope actually breaks. I used to have a grapple hook, ball and 50' of that rope that broke off the chopper. Got 100 bucks cash and beer for its return to the company.

gimie a minute and i'll upload a pic of another one i have, with a spliced and iron looped eyelet

I'll check when I next go back....should be soon and if it's there I'll grab it for ya if I can, there was a chain running through it which is why I cut it off !!!

did it look like this?

DSCF9715.jpg

if so thats one of three West Coast heli company logging ropes.

EDIT, i couldn't resist adding some blades!

Its prolly a rope from Campbell, Hayes or Heliteck helicopter logging! those are the three big guns on the West coast. Although there are a multitude of smaller flyboys plus the big guns from Canfor, West coast Forest products etc etc ect.

if you get the chance grab me the iron from that rope. I can use it!

I should have some time in a few weeks for a drive over to your neck of the cedars!.
