Remind me, why do we pry with our knives, again?

My Izula 2 lives on my tool belt nowadays and is a great “fine tip” pry tool when necessary. Like someone else said I wouldn’t white knuckle pry with it, but definitely not worried it will break with what I’ve used it for. Sucks the plastic sheath does more harm to it than prying has though

When you reground them, did you make a stouter tip than the original?

Actually, both were reground without having to change the hollow grind, just the edge and clip point, and look the same as original only shorter

In the community where I grew up carrying a pocket knife was—for a young boy—the first rite of passage into the community of men. “Old” men (anyone over 30) would admire the inexpensive knives we proudly pulled from our pockets, and we were cautioned to always keep our fingers out of the way when closing them, never cut toward ourselves, and to never use our knives as screwdrivers or pry with them.

I’ve followed that advice for over 50 years. I see no reason to change now. Others are welcome to use their knives any way they please.

I very rarely pry with my knives. I carry a Alox electrician in my right pocket and use the flat head for a pry bar most of the time. I’ve only used that knife to cut a handful of times. I have a crk on me in my left pocket everyday and I can’t bring myself to pry with it

Needing to pry or jimmy something is precisely why I started carrying an old military issue lineman's knife many years ago. That heavy locking screwdriver blade can get you out of A LOT of tight spots and it's always there to get ignorant with.....

~Excellent pieces, and as simple as dropping one
in your pocket. I know i've got some nice Camillus
pieces, & I believe Klein and Colonial as well...
Made in U.S.A.

Because I don't carry a pry and on the very rare occasion I do need to do some light prying pry my REX45 PM2 is always up to the task

Using a folding knife as a pry bar or screwdriver is second nature to many people here. Well, people all over the world actually.

I once watched a friend tighten a hose clamp with a tanto CRKT.
It doesn’t do the blade any good and certainly doesn’t help the head of the screw any.

To make matters worse, my friend had a Leatherman Wave available.

Let’s face it, most of the time a knife gets used as a screwdriver or pry bar is because people are just to lazy to use the correct tool.

Would you rather -
Crawl out from under a public toilet stall on your belly,
Or
Pry the broken latch open with your knife blade.

Why?
It helps keep knife companies healthy when folks have to buy replacements for broken knives.
And...
Why should we care how someone else treats their own possesions?

False dilemma. I’ll use the P-38 on my keyring or my SAK’s cap lifter.

But, as I mentioned earlier, you are completely free to do you.
