I seriously don't understand the need some of you seem to have to be complete a**holes, particularly to a new guy. He bought a knife, maybe his first, and went to the trouble to sign up with BF to say something about. And your first thought is "I'll try to make him look stupid?" FU.

I kind of agree with that but it is a $20 knife so it should be a surprise when it fails.

You wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't be surprised. Few here would be surprised. Maybe OP is a complete knife newbie with no frame of reference. I don't know. I do know that there is no reason to be douche to a new member (or anyone else) who has done nothing to deserve it.

You must see the irony in name calling with expletives when calling for civility. Report the posts if you must but stirring the pot with heated language won't help.

OP, sorry you bought a crap knife. It happens to most new people. When you are new to the knife game it is best to do some research on a brand before you purchase. Ask a question in general if you must. I've never heard of this company. I doubt you will find much info here on them and there is a reason for that. Had you asked I would have said no way. Buy an Ontario utilitac II for $5 more.

Again with the potty mouth and name calling.

I posted a thread about this knife. It was only$5.50. Are you saying I shouldn't have posted? Or that people should have been d-bags to me?

I just think he's mad. On a up note again new guys save a few bucks good knives to be had around 50ish

What? You can't understand what I typed?
I agreed with HappyDaddy saying no need to bash the fellow who bought the cheap knife but at the same time don't be surprised when that cheap knife fails.
Don't twist my words and I hope your $5.50 knife serves you well.

Can a mod, or an old head, 'splain the point of this particular thread? Is it meant to serve as an object lesson of some kind? I don't get the concept of a thread "removed from GBU" appearing in GBU. The post for which I was dinged violated the rules, and I've got no complaints about my "chicklets." I stand entirely by the underlying point, however. I should have been more gentle in making it I suppose.

Not sure the purpose of this thread, either. I will say that while HappyDaddy's language was inappropriate his point was well taken and helped get the original thread on a proper track.

I don't agree. Instead of providing information to the new guy he insulted other members. Talking about each other, especially with insults and foul language is not valuable in this part of the forum. I think this was removed from the thread to further discourage not talking about the subject of the thread.

My bad and yes it has served me well...

I agree it certainly could have been done without insulting any members( I don't insult that easily), but we were being rude to the OP of that thread and a new member. Not a great welcome. I don't think the members were purposely being rude, just a bit over critical, some humorous and some of us(or at least me) can be a bit knife snobs at times. I let what HD said about the rest of us slide by, and took from it that we should be treating the OP a little better. After his post we seemed to get on track of helping vs being critical of his purchase.
Just my take

Posts moved from the original thread had totally disrupted that thread.

Moved here, they became a discussion of how not to greet new members, new ideas, or knives we might not like. We really prefer not to move problems offline if we can use them as teaching experiences.

Esav- Fair enough. Thanks for the explanation. I was confused by the "Removed from GBU" while still being in GBU.

I think it's well deserved if you can't understand why a $20 knife would fail you.

I would expect to be treated like an idiot if I behaved like an idiot.
It's life, it's tough, you learn.

Not understanding that $20 ain't gonna get you much of a dependable and lasting knife isn't rocket science....either is the reaction to posting a thread about it.

JR - That's a very charitable and helpful worldview. I'm sure that every lesson you've learned has been through someone trying to make you feel stupid for not already knowing everything. Then again, perhaps you've always known everything about knives. Myself, I knew very little about them before I started reading BFC. I'm a very intelligent, well educated guy and had no idea what the differences were between a $20 Piece of junk and a Sebenza. It's a learning process. Don't you think helping people in a civil, decent, way is preferable to doing it with the dose of unnecessary snark?

Agreed...

How about not helping the op and just slinging insults and dirty words at other members. Or throwing pms with even more insults at those who did try to help. Might be time to let this one die.

While it may have been crassly put, my comment was intended to, and did, "encourage" folks to stop insulting the OP and try to help him.
