Well I see two possible explanations:

1) Materials have gone up, be it steel, TI or the blade finishing chemicals and they have had to increase prices in response.

OR

2) Mick got indicted for Stolen Valor and needs the money for bail/legal bills.

It's most likely #1 and #2 was just about as classless as it gets.

Not sure what you think you know about Mick, but feeling the overwhelming urge to drop that 10+ year old and mis-understood 'stolen valor' line is very unfortunate.....

Misunderstood? :stupid:

A lot of adjectives apply to the situation, "misunderstood" ain't one of them.

I am not into judging people, given my past how could I (recovering addict) but I do very much like the style of strider knives and they are on my list of knives to own one day. That being said I am so curious as to what the whole deal is with Mick Strider as I was reading on Cold Steel's website on their description of their G.I. Tanto there is a line in the description of it along the lines of "why pay for an overpriced knife made by a convict". I presume cold steel was referring to Strider?! Can anyone shed some background on this for me? Has there been a longstanding feud between Lynn Thompson and Mick Strider? I like both companies, I also like a good story!

Enlighten me please.

It was nothing more than drama.
There was a particular forum that was about 4 years late with it's 'tabloid' like front page devotion to all that is Mick Strider.

The facts that where ignored, and still are by many, bother a lot of people.

Mick and Dwayne did and said some things I am sure they regret, but the man there is so much more to it than 1+1=2.
Really easy to kick the crap out of someone based on one side of the coin.

I am glad we don't all get that kind of treatment, God knows none of us are all Angel.

Do some research, it's all there.....

The facts? What facts lead to a world of math where 1+1 is not 2?

I don't care how long its been , lying about your military career to sell a knife offends more than just this veteran. If you don't care that's you but other vets do... get over it lol the reason he's not on this forum is because he can't answer for his shameless actions.

on topic.. as if they weren't expensive enough.. another 20 is bogus. I bet there profit margin isn't enough Mr.Burger needs a new boat.

Mick lied about basically his entire life, really his knife company is the only unquestionably true part of his bio...He lied about his real name, his military service, he concocted a fantasy about being some "black ops super ninja tier one operator" BS and then tried to claim that the reason he spent 5 years in federal prison for armed carjacking was actually because the CIA abandoned him to be the fall guy...I don't think that having a negative opinion of him as unfair or excessively harsh based on these factors.

I actually like the basic designs of the SMF and SNG, but I'm never going to buy one, at least not new. I'm not going to reward someone who has made himself a financial success based on a foundation of deceit and criminality.

I love how people who have been BF members for a year come on here and bring up stuff they weren't even around for. Is your life so terribly boring that you sit on a forum waiting for a Strider thread to pop up so you can come in and trash a dude that isn't even a member? You children need to go outside and play.

As for the cost, only SKI knows. I would assume labor or materials price increase. If you're willing to drop 400$, you're probably willing to drop 420$.

I am not defending his actions, but I would wager that he is a financial success due to being a very talented knife maker, with useful designs that people appreciate, rather than because what he said about himself years ago. Especially since most people who buy his knives today are not even aware of his past.

You know what we need??? We need Brian Williams to get in on this thread. I wonder what he'd have to say about embellishing one's military history?

I bet Brian Williams would make one hell of a knife..

People are human. People do indeed change.. Strider knives are among the best you will find. If not THE best tactical folder money will buy. Their standard production knives are a bargain. I can't wait to buy more.
I see Brian Williams is now a news anchor at MSNBC. Sometimes people need a second chance.

Agreed!

Except for maybe Brian Williams making a hell of a knife. I would have to see that to believe it ;)

Just ask Brian Williams. He will tell you, he used to be a famous knife builder. He was under the code name Chris Reeve.

I do think everybody makes mistakes. I think a surge of adrenal and being in front of a microphone or camera and a lot people can make people say things they would never ordinarily say.

We all need a second chance. We all do dumb things. It is what we do..

Look at my forum name: did I ever tell you that I once saved a lady from a bad guy that had a good hold of her? Yeah.. I said, "go ahead punk, make my day". Yeah.. that's the ticket!

Lol. Brian Williams publicly apologized, and pointedly did not post a bunch of falsifiable denials followed by a self-serving pile of crap about having "spiders in his head."
