Request For Discussion: Buying, Selling & Trading Guidelines

Not all the time. Details are often taken for granted -- which can be fine as long as complications don't develop. When they do, however, buyers & sellers expectations of each other are not always the same. I'm not trying to complicate individuals' transactions, but rather simplify them by codifying what most well-intentioned people take for granted.

In light of the fact that the For Sale forums are back up and running, I'd like to bring this BTTT for more discussion. It's definitely a topic worth discussing. Several recent threads in the GB&U forum highlight the need for a basic set of guidelines to follow when buying, selling, and trading on the forums.

Very good ideas all around and the Guidelines seem to be honed quite well....... As far as getting everyone to read it, what about doing something like W&C? Make the FS/FT Private and when people call in for password send them a Disclaimer with the Guidelines attached instructing them not to proceed if they do not agree. Probably would be nil effect legally but at least it would keep the 'arguments' from flying so far left and right and may make for simpler resolution of conflict. I just quickly scanned these posts so if I double posted what someone else did, forgive my mistake. Great job guys!

I'm fairly new to the forum and have never sold or bought a knife in the secondary market so forgive me if my suggestion/question is out of line.

I would like to see "standardized condition rating/wording" to describe knives being offered for sale. I thought I once saw such a rating system for used knives at a dealer site. As a potential buyer, I would like to be on the "same page" with the seller on the condition of the knife (to save both of us time, money, and anguish). For example, spell out exactly what condition a knife & the box need to be in to qualify for the "NIB" rating, and so forth for lesser ratings. Should this rating system be part of the guidelines? Thanks for listening to my two cents.

Edit: Sorry, I had to cleanup some spelling errors.

I am inclined to support the Buyer's right to return for any reason within 10 days.

There should also be a Buyer's responsibility to be sure that He or She is committed before making an offer.
