Requesting all sellers' to package knives securely!

I always appreciate a well packaged item whether from a trade, a sale, or directly from a webstore. In return I always like to package my packages as well as I can also (Helps I work at a printing and mailing place). It is a courteous thing to do and secures the package. Many of our shipments can be quite valuable and even though the cost gets amped up and you may not need it most of the time, but when you do you will be wishing you had insured the package and for close to the actual amount.

Pack your outbound knives like you'd want your inbound knives packed. It's that simple.

Exactly what I was thinking! Had a transaction with a member here just recently and the packaging was superb! I was sure to complement the man on the great job he did, since it is refreshing to get a knife packed up in the same manner that you send out your own.

I usually wrap whatever I'm shipping in some tissue paper, and then encase that in some 2 ton epoxy. After that comes some armored plating wrapped in kevlar, and just to round things off, some duct tape. The whole assembly then goes into a 1" thick steel walled box that I've welded and riveted together in order to be air and water tight. any voids are filled with a combination of liquid rubber and expanding spray foam.

Unfortunatly a 4 oz. package typically ends up weighing around 150lbs, but the peace of mind that it will get there safe is well worth the additional cost.

Entomb those packages in clear packing tape like a mummy. There is no way one of those suckers will break open in transit.

I wrap the (usually flat rate small) box all the way around the edges of the box. Is that not enough? I can't remember if you're allowed to cover the rest in tape. As it stands the guy at the counter is always irritated by my insistence on taping it up. The other day, while shipping a knife, I went ahead and took some boxes with me so that I don't hold up the line, even if it only takes an extra minute.

I admit I've never understood why people don't take the time to package things correctly/safely. Also, do unto others as they say and if you care this little in your packaging you leave yourself open to others responding in kind......

I try to tipple address. I put a printed address wrapped and taped around the actual item. Then I put another loose in the box, and then the label. I tend to over pack.

Attaching a mailing label to the item itself MAY have prevented the only USPS knife loss that I have experienced in the last 2 years. The box arrived at my local PO soaking wet, crushed, torn open and full of newspaper but NO Camillus Barlow knife.

When I send a knife, after wrapping it up, I also try to tape the wrapped up knife to the inside of the box as well so that the "knife bundle" can't slide out easily IF the box does get a hole in it. Just my paranoia after having exactly that happen to the Barlow (one of the few folders I have bought on fleabay -It was a really good looking knife).
