Research and Development

I keep small cans of aerosol paint and burlap strips in different colors with my kit. A little 100 MPH tape to attach the burlap and a spritz of paint to flatten the tape and you can go from Alpine-Arctic_jungle_desert and back again in well under 80 days...it isn't GQ but it helps to blend.

Bill

I agree with SpearHead.

For my nature photographer uses, desert tan, O.D., and other Earth tone colors would be better camouflaged. The new desert tan coating material is tougher, less reflective, and more non-knife-people-friendly, too. It's just the kind of improvement that Busse Combat, a company that tries to make the highest performance knives possible, should be implementing.

Black can actually stand out in the woods.Black bear are easily seen in green vegetation, crow in the trees, and skunk in the bushes
yes, but I'm pretty sure skunks are nearly impossible to see when walking thru Busse combat fascilities, I've heard the crates of knives appear to be just floating westward out the door!

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I would like to see a Busse in hunting orange. I think that the majority of us don't need a camoflauged blade, but one that can be easily seen! The last thing that I need to do is wake up at the camp site hung over and search for my camoflauged blade! I'm sorry, but I can't imagine a scenario where I would require my blade to blend in seamlessly with the terrain. As stated earlier, there is a demand for this, but I agree that it should be a special order item. Let's talk real world here folks, not psuedo tactical talk! After all isn't that what Busses are all about? My knife is not going to the front lines any time soon, and niether is yours! (well, the vast majority of you). However I do agree that there should be different options other than black, I just don't like it. How about black, tan, od green, camo or hunting orange?

Jerry, I agree with Mr Escobar. Please affix sleigh bells, fuzzy dice, curb feelers, and a long tether to all his future knife purchases

I vote for standard Desert or Earth Brown, If Matt wants Orange, there is the DayGlo Orange option at Wally world & if I want O.D.--- same option, the greeter knows me well.
The Burlap is 'cause my wife won't let me play with sharp pointy things... she wraps them all up- kinda like trainin' wheels!!
Chairborne Commando...Out!!

Ouch Matt, if we weren't from the front or going to the front a lot of us would be buying less specialzed equipment and less likely to be posting here. To continue with the R&D, I definitely agree with you on the orange idea. Orange nukarta would be a big hit with firefighters, wilderness medics, search and rescue...etc, not to mention kayakers and campers. We shouldn't associate "tactical" only with ninja-people since there are many other planning and tactic oriented professions where visibility is extremely important. Tactical orange? It helps hunters keep from being shot!

Thanks JWBirch, you see what I'm saying. All of the uses you mentioned are 1000 times more common than your knife being a homing beacon for a sniper!:) I think that a tactical orange blade would be very useful for a wide range of people and activities.

True, but if I remember correctly, before you started collecting INFI Idaho used to have mountains that actually reached above sea level  ;) :p
Hey, Mr. Skunk, maybe if we both sell off all our INFI it will end the drought out here?!?.........NAAAAAH, you're right, it wouldn't be worth it

Ok. It has been brought to my attention that I may have arisen on the wrong side of the planet this morning. As a result, my last post may have come across a bit more caustic and abrasive and less toungue in cheek than I intended. If that is the case, it was unintentional.

As for ME's post, I can see a need for more visible tools for, as JWB stated, emergency/first response type occupations. But, as I said at the outset, my focus was and is more on the tactical/combat side of things. If it is possible and cost effective, I would imagine that there may be a market for more hi-vis stuff, but that definitely falls out my use range.

Are you kidding, I've already got Jerry working on my next variant. The SBFDCF Variant (for those of you acronymically challenged that is the sleigh bells, fuzzy dice, curb feelers Variant) ;) :p

Very cool Eric. See if Jerry will throw in the avalanche beacon and extra chrome he promised me.;)

Oh, and post some pictures when you get it:D

hey whats the deal??? i ordered up a dozen differant variants all with black paper micarta and white strips down the middle!

SKUNCARTA! :D :D :D

I guess you guys aren't feeling the orange! But for a non-combat high visibility blade, wouldn't an orange blade with off white canvas micarta handles be ideal? After all, the purpose of this post was to brainstorm for new ideas, so I thought that I would give you mine. SpearHead, I saw where you were coming from and no offense taken:), although I just ordered you a neon orange blade with tassles for your birthday!

and we can call it the NUCLEAR CREAMCICLE :D  :D
I gotta say again how much I like the non-reflective properties of the desert tan coating it just seems to absorb light! I think the same stuff in various colors would be excellent.

btw did everyone notice over at SRKW the BR and CT are available there in desert tan!!! I think I'm gonna trade my black CT for a desert tan one :D
