(Resolved!)Alrighty, looking for a high quality EDC Folder

I found the lock on my Manix 2 to be very smooth. It was stiffer than the Axis lock typically is, but I was able to easily open and close it by pulling back on the tabs and flicking the knife back and forth. The main difference to me was that I'm usually able to operate an Axis lock with one finger, whereas the ball bearing lock was really difficult without two fingers. I don't think that this was because of the stiffness, but because the ball bearing lock seemed to get cocked if pressure wasn't applied to both sides. I could be wrong about that though, as I didn't spend a lot of time trying to figure it out. I just accepted that it was a lock that I had to operate with two fingers. Overall, I don't think that the difference is big enough to worry about.

I can't compare the Manix 2 to the PM2. I'm waiting for the left handed PM2s to come out this year before trying that model out. On it's own though, the Manix 2 is a great knife. I gave mine to my dad and he's carried it every day for since, about a month now. He is completely satisfied and hasn't bugged me about trying a different knife since. Even when I handed him my Sebenza he just played with it for about 15 seconds and handed it back. He prefers the Manix. I disagree with him on that, but my point is that it's a fine enough knife that it's completely reasonable to think that it might fill your requirements.

Viper Ten - mine flips like a dream
Mcusta - the vg10 stainless Damascus is sexy

2 of the sharpest factory knives I received out the box.

The Manix gets a lot of good reviews, I just can't personally comment because I'm not a fan of the vast majority of spyderco designs.

That's interesting, because the videos I've seen look really smooth, and a few folks can close them one-handed with a small flick

I didn't say it wasn't smooth, but from the research I did before buying a Manix, folks claimed that the spring is stiff. The one I used to own had a stiff spring, but it did loosen up some over time.

Gotcha gotcha. Damnit, this is so hard!!!

Also the handles on the Manix are actually G-10 with what amounts to a carbon fiber sticker on it.

Are we talking about the same knife? Or is it false advertising

Maybe you should give in to your instincts, that knife is sweet... I put black hardware on mine:

Bro you're killing me. I love it.

Baed on my experience and what you said about your knife hobby, I will bet whatever knife you buy, it will be a matter of time before you get bored with it.

That being said, I would suggest you to try out the following:

- CRK Sebenza large 21, inlay or plain
- Hinderer XM-18 3.5 bowie or spanto
- ZT 0562cf, 0920, 0452cf or g10
- Spyderco titanium military, or if you can wait, the kw exclusive ti/cf Military

This one?
Sounds cool, but for that price point it would need to be pretty damn amazing. Are those quality components? More so than the KnifeCenter Cruwear?

Consider me enticed.

The knife is not out yet but Spyderco Military is a well proven model: big, super ergo, slicing like a dream, and on top of that, this kw exclusive has s90 blade, cf and ti scales, and a framelock. Retailed at $280 it is a very fair price IMHO.

I have a hard time loving my Manix, but it does come out occasionally. So far my ZT456 has kept pretty much everything else on the shelf. If interested, you really should try it. Unlike anything I've had, and so far, has kept all my other ZT's on the shelf.

And out of everything I have available, the knife that rides shotgun with the 456, is the little Spyder Chaparral.

Sent from my mind....using Tap-a-Thought. (tm)

I still suggest going with multiple knives, but if you decide to go with only one, I suggest buying different styles of handles and hardware to go along with it.

I'm not sure what has drawn you to considering the Manix2 but if it's solely for the ease of opening and closing then might I suggest a Axis lock from BM? I personally have no experience what so ever with the Manix but I have seen reviews and videos on the knife/locking system and it just seems like a "Great Value" Axis lock from Walmart(not to mention a moving part "the spring" which in turn could fail on you) lol. But aside from the lock im not sure what cutting task you will be asking of the knife. Nonetheless...there is nothing like a FFG leaf blade when it comes to slicing as I do own many Spyderco products as well as BM

I have been looking at the Freeman 451 Flipper. Looks like an amazing knife, reviews on it are all positive.

Thanks for all your advice guys, I actually ordered something while the site was down but I wanna make it a surprise until it gets here :) I'm very, very excited to get it.

I'll update the thread accordingly, I really appreciate all the feedback!

As others have said get a Chris reeve
And if you don't mind getting a used knife it could save you quite a bit of money
