Hi guys,

Lock on my Caribben snaped, (smack in the middle of my vacation too), did this happend to anyone else?

Best,

That is incredibly hard to wrap my head around. I have never seen or heard of this type of failure.

Can you explain how it happened, where it broke, and any other details?

Pics on google drive below
Explanation:
Rinsing it off with sweet water after a dip at the beach, spiderflick open, rinse, closing it, very weak "snap" sound, investigate lock part completely snaped at the bend point!

Have you had it from new? Otherwise someone may have tried to improve the weak detent by bending the lockbar and work hardened it by mistake, perhaps?

The lock failed when the lockbar snapped off. First time I've seen it on a compression lock, but far from the first spring failure I've seen. I'm certain it will qualify as a warranty issue. Spyderco will make the knife right, but I don't think they can fix your vacation.

From new, I have been waiting for the release actually and got it as soon as available brand new model and knife

Hi Vojinovic.mlade,

Welcome to our forum and my apology for your frustration, especially while on vacation.

Needless to say, this is very unusual and I've not heard of any doing this before. I'd like to get the knife in our lab. Where are you?

I am currently in Alykes, Zakynthos, Greece. I am from Belgrade, Serbia. The reason I wrote in the forum is because it is also unbelievable for me that a compression lock should fail (or get destroyed), and the reason I have a Caribbean and have been waiting for it to acquire a salt knife is the compresion lock. I would also like to find out what happened, and will be able to send the knife as soon as I get home, which should be on August 6th. I stand responsible for using the knife normally (not abusing it) and would like to activate your warranty anyhow. Just tell me please should I remove tha aftermarket deep carry pocket clip and send the original with it?
Thank you Sal for your message and attention, and it's Mladen actually 🙂

I have received a Spyderco customer service mail reply although a generic one "please send the knife for evaluation"... And I wrote a partialy dramatic mail stating that I have suffered a catastrophic lock failure and am without a salt blade... so 😒

I am a little curious what you hoped to achieve with your e-mail. Did you expect Sal to hop in a jet and fly halfway around the world to bring you a new one?

Insulting or Rude behavior
Of course not, and please no sarcasm on my expense else please copulate of the thread.
I hoped to achieve a higher level of personal interest to an event that I thought incredulous, and hopefully a clarification of the same eventually - something I hope I have achieved here by Sal's interest.
Also I was expressing a measure of disappointment due to slightly marred vacation.
