I am seeking advice on how to deal with a damaged blade I recieved from a member on the exchange. Here is a link to the listing...

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/967196-Desert-Jack-amp-MO-511

He stated it was new, but what I recieved had a tip that was bent. This looks like it was used to pry with improperly...
I just sent him an email for a refund, but I am worried that if I sent the knife back to him he would not issue the paypal refund.
Anybody that can help me handle this situation would be much appreciated.

I don't think I can get a photograph to show it very well as it is not a major bend. The package was not damaged to my memory, I'll have to dig up the packaging tomorrow. The way I can tell it's bent is by holding the cardboard sheath on both sides of the spine and the tip is further away on one side than the other.

Now that I think about it, the knife was packaged in a soft cardboard package, instead of a good sturdy box. I won't be able to look at the packaging until tomorrow most likely to verify whether or not it was actually insured.

Is it at all possible to be a manufacturing defect? Can you see abrasions or inconsistent finishes? Is it minor enough to sharpen out? Your going to sharpen it someday anyway. I can't form any opinion without a pic.

Maybe its my eyes but i see nothing wrong in the pictures.

Did you send an email to Jeff before posting this? Hes been a member here for a long time and has a great feedback record. If there is damage to the blade i doubt he knew about it. Why not try to deal with him before bashing his name?

The bend is not major so the pictures do not show it very well. When holding to straight edges on either side of the spine it is clear that the tip is closer to one straight edge than the other. I'm not sure how to photograph with the straight edges for reference.

From the spine looking down, hold the straight edge along side the spine, take a picture with the straight edge on both sides of the spine. Don't use the cardboard sheath. A metal straight edge.

I'm not sure why this would be posted in hall of shame if you're not trying to bash his name. Send the guy an email and try to work it out and if you can't come to agreeable terms then take it to the forums but at least give the guy a chance before going to the forums. Also, I dont see the problem, maybe its the angle you're using for your shot but my guess is that the grind is off a bit from the manufacturer making it asymmetrical, not bent. Good luck to you and Jeff on your issue.

This knife was used by someone to try to open a door latch. No one told me but it's obvious. Like I said earlier are there any marks, scratches, missing coating to the tip (meaning the sides where it might have been used as a wedge)? You probably can not pry on something without marking the pry tool. If you see no marks I might guess it was made that way.

Looks like a grind issue to me. I highly doubt you can get any kind of bend in a SYKCO blade without any other apparent damage.

I don't see anything wrong with the blade or tip.

You haven't even tried to work this out with Jeff and you are bashing his reputation by putting a post in the Hall of Shame? What are you trying to do?

Why don't you lock this up until after you've given Jeff some time to work this out with you?

To me, you are the one looking like a troublesome buyer who will quickly earn yourself a "Do Not Deal With" reputation if this is how you go about asking a question.

I suggest that you read about the other people here in the HoS to see why they learned their placement in here. Then , go read a few postings in the GB&U thread to see the right way that people go about settling a dispute.

Thanks for the pictures. I don't see a problem. The seller has excellent feedback. Why don't you focus on dealing with him directly.
