Rest in Peace Bob Lum..

This is an email from Jean Lum. If you are unable to attend but would like to send a card, flowers or other remembrance, I think you should mail them to the church. I think this will help the family not be inundated at their home.
Hello Friends and Family:

We have set the Memorial Service for Robert W. Lum for Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 11:00am. A reception with refreshments will be served immediately following the service.

It will be held at our church, First Baptist Church of Springfield, 1175 "G" Street, Springfield, OR 97477 - 541-746-6031. Dr. Jeffery Savage officiating.

Directions and other information will follow as the week progresses. If you have any questions, please call us at 541-688-2737.

We love you all and thank you for your love, prayers and support. It has meant a lot to us.

Warmly,

Jean and Eli Lum
Thank you for the information. I have a card ready to go out tomorrow, addressed to Jean and Eli Lum in care of the church.

Bob was ill for a while. And some of us knew this day would come. But still, I am very saddened. He was a friend to all of the knife community. He will be missed greatly. My condolences to his family. RIP Bob.

Bob Lum gone???!
This is all too sudden.
It got me thinking about what a great collaboration history he had with Spyderco.
Needless to say, the Lum Chinese Folder will always remind me of just how gifted he was in making "the plain" so remarkably elegant.
An artisan.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
He must surely rest amongst past knife greats; uniquely one of the few makers with talent.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of one of the Great Knife Makers of our time. Bob, you will be missed, and since I can't get one of your customs I'll be sure to bug you when I get up there. Rest in Peace, J.

Very sad news....

Designer and maker of one of the most beautiful tantos ever IMO.

RIP

Apologies, I don't know who took this pic, I downloaded it for reference.

I posted a reply to this thread earlier stating that Bobs illness was brain cancer.. As brought to my attention by another member, this was not the sole illness which Bob fought.. I would like to sincerely apologize for any confusion this may have caused by my not stating all of the facts correctly.
I have not seen Bob in over a year, since we moved from the Eugene area..
A very good friend of mine was with Bob quite a lot during his battle with this disease, and he was how I got my updates on Bobs condition..
After reading the e-mail I realized that I had been told the other information but for whatever reason,I did not include it.

Again my apologies, Mike

Prayers out to Bob Lum's family. I never knew him in any way, but always liked his knives and ofcourse he was a legend in the knife industry.

Yet another good guy dies way too soon.:(

Bob was a great designer and custom knife maker. He will be missed and remembered by many. Our thoughts are with Jean and Eli.

Bob created the Americanized Tanto design originally produced by Cold Steel and is common in todays models from many custom knifemakers and production companies.

In addition to his custom knives, Bob did a number of collaborations with several companies. (Cold Steel, Spyderco, Seki-Cut, Benchmade) His Tanto fixed and folder designs with Spyderco as well as his Chinese Folder design are classics.

Rest in Peace Bob.

This is a time a fellow could get reminiscent, but a man of this integrity and fame cannot be eulogized enough....the language we speak simply cannot convey the feelings of loss. We rest assured his legacy in design will live on, his name always remembered in this group, and be a benchmark in the knife making community.

My deepest sympathy goes out the Lum family. My Benchmade 740 Dejavoo BobLum design,is one of the smoothest folders I have ever had.R.I.P. Mr.Lum you will be deeply missed.

:( What a sad piece of news! I will always remember him as a man who created a genre in tactical knives and as one of the finest artists in the industry. Bob was far more influential in current knife design than many people know. He has passed to join other greats like Bill Moran, Bill Scagel, Bo Randall, Hoyt Buck, Rob Simonich, and all of the other members of the knife community family that we've lost. God Bless, Bob! My prayers and thoughts are with your family!

Sincerely,
3G
