Retail Price Maintenance

Hello, Thanks for the reply Dennis. I did not have any of the technical stuff for a proper reply for pricing issues. As for Tall Pauls post all I can say is "AMEN".

I feel the same way. It's the "something for nothing" syndrome. Later, JC

Are they worth the money? Well I bought one and now use it! At first I felt (after buying one for £345 or about $500 US that it was NOT worth it. However time and a good few days carry have changed my mind. I still would like to see the small range around $200, but only because I want one of those now!

If you don't want to pay, then don't. There are plenty of other products for less. Just don't expect the same quality.

As to price fixing, well they are a small company and supply is often outstripped by demand. Otherwise I am against price fixing, but in this case I don't really see a problem. Oh I want a cheaper Sebi! But then I am cheap.

Forgot to add that I am cheap to. Always looking for a deal and willing to wait for one.
I don't hold anyones prices against them but don't hold waiting for or looking for a deal against me. Not that anyone is......

Paul there is a difference between asking a question about policy and making a personal statement about the individuals behind the blades.

Interestingly enough it seems from what Dennis has posted that you can easily enforce a fixed price by simply not dealing to anyone who sells below it.

The question then becomes would Reeves sell to a dealer who has an open policy of significantly discounting the blades say >50$ off of the current retail price.

Cliff, must be how you look at it- I did not see just a question of policy , I saw an accusation of policy AND the people behind the issue based on someones personal perception of a situation. And by the way I did answer the question that was asked.... I and several otthers just thought it in bad taste the way it was asked and we did not "slam" the person who asked... In reference to the attack that was made on you that I refered to- I could not seperate you as a human being from the quasi public figure who supposidley is fair game to such an outrageous statement, same with the Reeves... as far as a legitimate dealer selling for CRK 50.00 under retail- read my post above... it applies

Wow, a flaming topic. Must be fun in here. All I'm going to say is that no one has the right to tell a manufacturer of anything how much he should charge or how he deals with his distributors. Whatever Reeves knives does with their distributors is none of my business, that's plain FACT. There is nothing against the law going on here.

Here is an example of a similar situation that some of you are accusing CRK of doing: Rolex (The watch Company) has a system whereby, if they catch an "Official" seller of their watches selling watches for more than 10% off, they pull their distributorship and do not send that retailer any more Rolexes. They are literally telling the retailers that Rolex picks the sale price not the retailer.

If CRK does not want to see his knives being sold at deep discounts that cheapen his product, then that is his choice and it is not against any law.

That's all I have to say, except:

CRK please put me down for a Project I in CPM-3V

Dennis Wright,

Your ears must have been ringing! I was talking to a fellow forumite last night: We were wondering what had happened to you! Good to hear from you again!!!

If anyone who thinks this pricing thing is bad and can't understand the relative adherence to "retail" on these products.... If anybody here wants to sell me perfectly legal and quality 100.00 dollar bills for 50.00 to 75.00 (so there is variation) I would be interested...

IMHO - pointless comparison.

According to your perfect logic, interesting to hear your opinion tallpaul, who's going on now? Either dealers are wasting their time, selling 100$ bills for 100$(+shipping and handling) or CRK is loosing, by giving dealers those perfectly legal 100$ dollar bills for less than a 100$?

Now the point is as a dealer you are not going to sell for much less because they are worth "x" amount... My comment on the 100.00 for 50.00 or 75.00 is like someone wanting to give so much less for a sebenza... and by the way it does not cost the fed 100.00 to print a 100.00 bill but their dealers (the banks) do get the 100.00 dollars for them and sure as heck do not advertise them for 50.00 to 75.00 and BTW I never said I had perfect logic... I do live in my own little world sometimes and if you think my logic is bad you should find out about my humour.....

Thanks Michael. 13 shows in a row, some of them 5 day events, tend to wear on a person after awhile.

After all the work keeping up, (and catching up), with all the paperwork and administrative stuff it takes to run a business, there isn't much energy left to sit down and pound a keyboard into the wee hours. I've always felt that if I can't say something coherently, I'd better not say anything at all. Words don't string together very well when you keep falling asleep between the periods.

Anyway, I'm back. The show schedule has thinned out a bit and I'll have some time to pay a bit more attention to what is going on out here. Some new names and lots of topics to get acquainted with.

I've got some new Sebenzas in, a couple of small damascus uniques, ( a raindrop and a spirograph) and a couple of large BG42 uniques have come in, as well as some 5.5" Kats. Once I find a new way to host photos, I'll try & put some up.

Chris was at Solvang this weekend but I didn't get a chance to go and see him. I had a show to do here in San Diego. Maybe next year.
