Return to Ground Zero in VA (Plus, TOPS Tactical Steak Knife User Review and Pics!)

Great pics and review! I really hope we can get a group buy on that steak knife, it really does look like an excellent design.

I had high hopes and expectations for this knife, but it has outperformed all of them in every aspect. I am especially pleased at how it holds up to stresses and hard use, in such a thin blade package.

Steve has the plain edged one with him and is going on a 36-mile 3-day trip this weekend, and he's going to use it and take pics. He is hard on his knives, so he'll surely put this blade to the test!

Just heard of this model now and what good service it did.

A generous belly with serrations where they ought to be. Nice!

Glad to hear it holds up. Is it true that it's 440 stainless?

Also, as to your hypothesis that it's differentially heat-treated, that'd be great--but I am not sure I've ever heard of a differential heat treatment of a stainless blade before.

Any idea about cost, and when available, and all that?

I saw those at blade show and at Terrills, Brian. They are no joke. I really love that knife. It is very well designed for a steak knife. They should call it a stake knife. Seriously impressed by it. Did I mention I like it alot?

Have a good time Brian. That knife looks like a winner. You're right, Steve uses his knives hard. ;)

I enjoyed all that talk about the place to put serrations. I like serrations, but I have found the perfect spot for them is - on another knife - the whole blade covered with 'em :) :)

Great review Brian - but you will have to stop referring to 5/32" (0.156") as thin. Actually for the size of this knife, I'd say that it is in fact a bit beefy (pun).

Steve took it on a 6 mile hike with him yesterday and he reported that the knife was like a mini-machete - he was clearing tall grass and brush easily with it. He was really surprised at the ability of the knife to do that.

Hey Brian great pics. I was just wondering if you had the rare sighting of the wild pac man?

5.11 huh? Yeppers!

I don’t think I ever saw a full tang look like that. The handles must encase it. Anyways, I would prefer that one over the steak knife. :)

I like some of those diving knives that have one side with plain edge and the other with serrations. Having a blade like that has got to just make you feel more hairy. :)

LOL! Another bad punner...I love it. As for thin, this is darn thin compared to most TOPS knives. :)
