Revolution or Revulsion

I think Emerson makes fine knives but I would prefer them without the wave.

I kind of dig the wave. It is nice that when you want it to it just flies out of your pocket like it has a rocket attached. I would love to see the wave licensed out to more companies. It looks ugly, but it adds a lot of function.

Interested in sharing what happened?

Why not. Well, I happen to own a waved Endura. When I got the knife I loved it, all the awesome features of the Endura with a rapid deployment from the pocket. Unfortunately that rapid deployment caused quite a bit of damage. I had the blade clipped to my right side front pocket like the vast majority of people do. As luck would have it I was talking with a group of people when the idiot next to me saw I had a blade clipped there and wanted to check it out (of course without asking). I happened to be concentrated on talking with someone across from me so I didn't see but sensed when he started to remove the blade from my pocket. I swept my hand down to my pocket as a reaction, catching the now opened blade across three of my fingers, severing multiple nerves and doing tendon damage. Thankfully post-surgery I regained full use of my dominant hand and the nerves have regrown. Certainly wasn't the knife's fault but given the situation if it hadn't been waved I would've been grasping a closed knife. Needless to say I'm a little more conscious of whose around me...

... ouch. Glad you recovered, though. Seems like it was the perfect storm of things going wrong at once. Had crap like that happen a lot (so many things going wrong in junction).

I had sympathy pains just reading that. Ouch. Although I've never had that happen, I have cut most of my fingers at some point in time -- doesn't feel good!

Thank you for sharing your story. Perhaps it will save another. It got my attention.

I think it's a neat feature for some people but calling it either a revolution or reviling it is going way to far for me. Personally I think something like one hand opening being standard or pocket clips are more of a revolution because of how they have changed perspective. If someone is carrying a knife, most people would expect it to be a one hand opener with a clip, rather than a traditional.

I don't like the wave and have a 131 ECA from 07 I believe. Love that little thing. I think EKI has the heat treat for the 154CM done very well. Kind of like how CS has the maker of there Voyager line and others heat treat AUS8a, just done right. I've a Super Roadhouse, a Super 8 and the 131 and can't complain about them at all. But don't carry them much cause I have a ton of handmades I carry like a 3 Sisters Forge Super Beast and a Leu BluePhin and currently a Greg Lightfoot 468 Magnum I believe it is called from 95. keepem sharp
