Revolver Questions

Actually I am a semi-auto fan. My experience with small autos is very limited. Thus my request for info. Thanks for the Sig suggestion. I have nothing against Glocks they just don't fit my hand well. I know there is fix for that but at this point I don't have the desire to buy a pistol just to turn around a send it off to be modified. Maybe in the future I'll go that route. Right now I'm looking for out of the box readiness. Unless of course I can find a used G27 that has already been modified.

I'm looking for something that I can carry in a variety of ways. IWB, in the pocket of a pair of shorts, jacket pocket (picked up the 5.11 casual jacket on clearance at Christmas that has all kinds of options for concealed carry), vest pocket (ie Coronade Leather), or in the pocket on my Fatboy. Unfortantly my .40cal Walther P99 does not lend itself to some of these carry styles so I'm looking to add a gun or two so I have more options. One of these guns will most likely be a Kimber Pro Carry II as it is slimmer than my Walther. Pistol two will be either a small revolver or a small semi-auto. Hope that helps to give a better idea of what I am looking forward to.

Just got done looking at the Sig website. I like the looks and the specs on the 239. Any famililarity with that model?

For a slim 9mm, you would have to look far and wide to do better than the S&W 3913. I don't have one, but I have shot it and it is perfect for this purpose. I prefer the 6906, which is the double-stack version.

The 4516 on the bottom is neither slim nor light, but it never fails to fire and I am most comfortable carrying it.

Other slim 9mms would include the HK PSP/P7 and P9, but those are not exactly common. This is a P9S:

My "gun when you can't carry a gun" is a Beretta Tomcat:

If you're open to the small auto idea with big bore caliber performance I would look into the Glock 29 in 10mm. Just an idea...

Thanks for all the input guys. I should have mentioned that I was planning on this being a concealed carry pistol. My intention is for a simple and light weight pistol for use while wearing shorts in the summer or to carry in the city where a 4" 1911 or larger revolver would not be suffeciently discreet. On of my other planned purchases is a Kimber Pro Carry II and my thought process was to reduce my ammo requirements by only adding one more ammo type to the mix as I allready have a 9mm and a .40 between the wife and I. I have not ruled out a .357 revovlver. At this point I'm just doing research and trying to get some info from those that have tried this set up. I am aware of the need for moon clips but they are not a hold up for me.

Horn Dog you pretty much nailed it on the head. I'll have to add .44 Spl to the list for condsideration. Don't need a bear gun but if I ever do I've got a pretty good idea what is needed for that requirement. Around here the concern is two legged predators.

Thanks for the responses. Please feel free to keep them coming.

Personally when it comes to concealed carry revolvers there is nothing better than a S &W AirLite Ti model. I have the 32H&R Magnum revolver that I upgraded to the longer handle scales after buying it and love the thing but they make it in a 38 and it seems I saw a 357 mag airlite on GunBroker.com the other day when browsing. They have discontinued the 32 now but everynow and then those come up but they run high. I've had a 44 Spcl. AirLite Smith model also and although my wrists did not like the latter one mentioned I would imagine that a 357 AirLite model would be the way to go.

These are very easy carry models and I highly recommend them. I have the AirLite 8 shot 22 Revolver by Smith as well and really like it better than any other 22LR I've owned in a pistol.

Speaking of 45 revolvers though, I must say much to my surprise I really love my Taurus Judge 45 LC/ 410 gauge UltraLite. This thing is fun! And in my humble opinion there is nothing wrong with having the option of still being able to at least load it with something you can buy at Wal-Mart (410 shot shell) for those times you can't find appropriate 45 long Colt ammo. This is the only Taurus I have ever liked. I've had a few and all were disappointments until this one so I'd have to say that maybe the Rossi influence helped them along because I never owned a Rossi I didn't love. They can still be found on gunbroker also. I have a 971 model I think it is in the 2.5" barrel with rear sites that is flawless. Unfortunately its very heavy so I'd have to say its not as good for concealed carry as one of Smith Air Lites.

Man that Tomcat sure reminded me a lot of my Seecamp. I thought thats what it was at first. Is that a 32 auto?

Thanks for mentioning Beretta. I remember looking at a model 85 (IIRC) years ago that I liked a lot. I'll have to keep it in mind when I start shopping around.

Just so everyone knows I'm not a Glock hater just not an option right now.

Did an introduction course on this and liked it.....:thumbup:The SRT trigger option is better than the old trigger or the DAK trigger for me.

If I had my choice for a slim 9mm Sig I would go for this custom set up by Novak....larger than the 239 but very slim profile....able to be carried cocked and locked which I prefer to the double action or half cock carry....I hope Novak's don't mind me using their pic....if they do I will take it down...

Personally I would go for the above modifications on the 210-5 model

and remove the target sights and get Novak's to fit their sights and a low profile compensator to reduce mussle jump entirely which can be done with a 9mm. It would be an expensive pistol but if I had this I would'nt need anything else. I like the 210-5 option as you could unscrew the compensator and fit it with a suppressor if you needed it for military use....like this Sig 220

I have used a number of pistols over the years and the Sig 210 is the best. I would rather alter what I wore or carried so I could use it than go for a smaller set up. Even a 239....

No, I don't and havn't had one of those, but if I were going for a small 9mm that would be the one for me. Never met a Sig I didn't love.

Peter, I would love to have a 210 for a full sized gun, but they are very expensive and hard to find over here. Never got to shoot one, but would love to one day. I may try to find a range in that Atlanta has one...which I dought.

Not a good choice to pass up the Glock line. I EDC a Glock day in, day out. Stake my life on one. The 26 has done everything I have asked of it. Same weight loaded with 11 rounds as a .38 stainless with 5 rounds in smaller package.

But to each his/her own;)

He already said glock was a non-starter.

The reason I am currently passing on the Glock is that in order to make it work for me is that I would first have to purchase a Glock which is a $500 to $600 purchase (new) than send it to Boresight Solutions for another $300 plus of work. I like the engineering, ruggedness and reliability of the Glock but because of my small hands and fat fingers the Glock is one of the most uncomfortable guns I have every handled. I just looked at a brand new Kahr P45 yesterday at a local gun shop that was only $650. It felt great in the hand. It is not the caliber I want but other than that it is every thing I'm looking for and at a price I can afford. SO for now that is why I'm passing on a Glock.

Hi Ken,

The Sig 210 is like a 1-300 SHBM....you know it is the best balanced and handling of what you want but deny yourself it saying it is too expensive....meanwhile if like me at present you have multiple cheaper knives which when added would eclipse the 1-300 cost....

My custom 210-5...a custom Para Ordinace P14 and a custom 625....all got sold abroad due to the ban. A friend has mine and I still get to say "hello" to them if we meet up in Europe every now and again. I miss my competition pistol shooting:(

After a very long and similiar dilemma, I went with the 3" 5 shot Ruger sp101. I had a 2" airlite 357 that i liked (although it did bite!) but this works way better for me. Carries great, a little more velocity and "pointability", and will outlast me without a doubt.

I didn't want the long hard sloppy trigger, so I bought it from Gemini Customs and had Marc install a fiber optic sight, melt down package, moon clips, and slick trigger job.

It's a jack of all trades, master of none, but I'm pleased to have it as my "primary" woods and self defense firearm.

Dang it Eli! I have been thinking about getting a revolver. Hoped to keep it around $500.
Then you go and post that pic! Guess I'll have to at least double my outlay for a wheelgun. NO REGRETS!

Thanks Bro. :)

If you go .357/ .38 spl check out Speer Gold Dot 135gr short barrel ammo ..supposed to be excellent...getting some for my 642 with CT grips...I wanted a big bore carry revolver also , so I bought a performance center smith and wesson carry comp 629 3 inch in 44 mag ...looking to get some gold dot 200 gr 44 spl or corbon 165 gr....

Yup. .32 ACP Silvertips only. Hardly the most rip-snorting of calibers, but small, light, and easy to shoot.

I have no problem with the .44 mag. I would love to get an 1894 and I also have a reliable source for a minty Anaconda.

I just don't have dies and components for .44...I'd rather focus ($$$) on what I already have and maintain those needs. Still, I may still take him up on the Colt someday;)

1894 in 44 mag? 44-40?

springfield HD sub compact or compact series are nice. Fit a little nicer in a smaller hand. At least thats what our customers say. I like the Springfield over the Glock.

I'd take a look at either the Colt Cobra or Agent, S&W airweight .38, or the Kahr PM9, P9?(all steel compact), or possibly the PM45.
