Rick Hinderer Knives Picture Thread

My 1st XM - a 3" non flipper slicer grind. I got myself a grail & wanted to get it in the family album & on record.

I have the same Ti bronze ano smooth scale, Looks the same.
I think hand oils and the acid contained within causes the rainbow effect.
I used to wipe it off (OCD) I don't anymore.
I have come to accept and somewhat like the effect.

hahha same here
I guess its one benefit of being a greasy italian!
Im gonna go rub some pepperoni on them and see what happens! hahaha

I think the standoffs on the Gen 1 are much beefier than the current stand-offs. Is this right? I'm going by memory of my XM-24.... Maybe they just look beefier to me? The whole knife looks beefier to me. Like maybe the Ti slab for the lock-side is thicker too...

The standoffs don't have the taper to them so I guess you could say they are beefier.

As for the lockside, I dunno. I don't have two to compare.

The current standoffs are tapered? Looks like the sides of the standoffs are thinner but I don't see the taper...

My bronze standoffs are the same size & shape as the current stock canted side standoffs on the XM18-3". Although they are noticeably heavier in weight than the Ti, the stock stainless standoffs barely stick to a rare-earth (neodymium) magnet, unlike a pure steel.
I suspect that the choice of alloy for standoffs makes for ease of cutting on the lathe while maintaining "overbuilt" quality. Here you can see the canted slope on the inside recess. This inside slope enhances the colour of the bronze or blue at the centre of the Ti standoffs I think.

Just as a side note, I took off some of the black ridge of the textured surface of my spare blue/black G10 scale to bring out more of the blue colour & then polished the resulting flattened ridge to give it a bit of a lustre. Looks really fine & I'll change it into the scale rotation when the mood hits.
