I put the etch on with a electro-etch machine. I had a template made for several knives that i will be doing in the future. Send a photo and they will make anything you want.Electro etch is what some guys use to mark there blades with instead of stamps. This process is fairly simple although its not that permanent. You can take 600 grit sand paper and get it of fairly easy.

Is it basically the same thing that Case, Queen, etc. use to mark some of their blades?

Decided to merge the two thread together so we can have one place to admire Rick's work.

Good plan, Gus!

I gotta say, this is a seminal moment in custom knifemaking! Bringing those beautiful old etches into play is a hugeWOW!
Can't wait to see more, but would like to see the technology improve to more lasting markings - deep acid etches!

It also is an eye-opener for the antique collectors!!:eek:

Rick those are incredible!

I really, really hope you can get some more mammoth ivory like that!

Out of sight on those, I would wish I could be so lucky. I love the Mammoth one.
Congratulations on a job well done, and to perfection.
Jim

That mammoth ivory is some of the nicest I've seen.
Both good looking knives Rick..

That Serpentine with Mammoth Ivory is sick!
