I may be rethinking the aftermarket body I want for my SKS. I'm sure those of you that ever held any interest in SKS/AK or even Saiga type guns have heard of Tapco. Anyhow, I was planning on eventually getting a
Tapco "Intrafuse" kit (Tapco site is having issues) for my SKS, resulting in a SKS with an adjustable stock and pistol grip, and some rails.
I just found something a little more interesting... The
CBRPS caught my eye as a bull-pup variation with a built-in drop down fore-grip and room for a bayonet lug mounted bipod. And they sell an additional mod that allows for magazines to be swapped while the bolt is still closed. You'll have to scroll most of the way down the page before you find products for the SKS, but they make a few interesting ones (including an AK pistol).
Pros of the Tapco:
- The stock system itself is only $70-$95.
- Can be had with lower rails.
- Allows for use of factory iron sights.
Cons of the Tapco:
- Will cost an additional $60 for the Gas Tube (reusing the existing gas tube borders on gun-smithing).
- Has no option for quick-swap magazines (if you haven't seen the "removable" magazines for the SKS, then I envy you, they don't look pretty or work smoothly at all).
- Would require an additional $30 for a bolt cover with rails or for scope rings to accept rear mounted optics (Tapco kit only has forward rails on the hand guard).
Pros of the CBRPS:
- Adaptable for quick-swap magazines.
- Comes with "rear" (in air quotes because "rear" is a relative term) mounted rail for proper placement of optics.
- Folding fore-grip, folds forward and out of the way, similar to the way a bipod would.
- Raised comb for use of rail mounted secondary iron sights or optics.
- Makes me think of the BK7, pure sexiness.
Cons of the CBRPS:
- The setup before any additional toys is $295.
- Made on a semi-custom basis, so wait times are more than just shipping time.
- Has no lower rail for bipod, would have to mount to the barrel or bayonet lug.
What do y'all think about each?
