Rinaldi TKK...Stunning!

thecook,

Those jpegs I sent you are not both Trace Rinaldi knives. One is the Wambli by Rob Simonich, the other is the Chimera by Trace Rinaldi. The Chimera is not the TKK or TTKK either although the design incorporates elements of those and Trace's Spook and Sharkstooth models.

Please see the thread in this section "Talonite Project completed" to resolve your confusion. Sorry if I've been the cause of some of the confusion here.

Hey Guys I finally got the film to the developers and will have some scanned pics of the TTKK's up in a few days... I have been VERY busy and had forgotten to get this taken care of. I will keep you all posted.

Well I finally have some pics of the TTKK, and Chimera. I am sorry about how long it took, but between blown boards in the speed control of my grinder, and getting my scanner to work on my new computer it has been VERY rough:-)... Sorry to those that have been waiting to see them, but here they are...
you can see the Talmadge Tactical Kitchen Knife, and the Chimera here..

Please let me know if the pics are dark.
Again sorry for the long delay...

Bob,

How about an update on the Chimera and how it is working out for you (review). I am taking the Talonite plunge in a big way and following your footsteps once again (you got me hooked on the Moran/Edgeworks combo also!). Trace is making me a 5" Talonite TKK as soon as I get the Talonite stock shipped over to him from Rob. Rob has agreed to make me a Talonite "Wilderness" model with parasite and mammoth stag handles.

I currently am very pleased with the Boye Basic 3 in Dendritic Cobalt I recently received from Discount Knives. This knife had a very nice razor edge out of the box and I have not managed to dull it enough to report on sharpening yet.

Looking forward to hearing more on the TTKK's and Chimera,

Waldo

Waldo,

To be quite honest my initial impressions have proved to be right on the mark. The Wambli geometry and design has proved to be a great field - utility knife (see DC's impressions of her Wambli kit elsewhere in this forum). The Chimera excels in the kitchen, neck wear for utility as it's lighter than the Wambli (3/16" stock versus 1/8"), and for any defensive applications as the finger cutouts and the blade's extension significantly below the handle contribute to a secure grip be it sabre, reverse, whatever. I prefer the Chimera handle to the TKK or TTKK. YMMV.

I can easily see a longer Chimera say even 6 or 7 inch blade. The drop point flat grind is almost identical to the TKK/TTKK. You are going to love Rob's Wilderness/parasite model too. Very practical that.

But overall I've been gratified to hear of folks experiences with Talonite in general. Yup, I sure like it in my Wambli and Chimera flavors, but folks are finding out that it indeed performs as I've written/posted about it since last November.... the stuff cuts and cuts and cuts.

BTW I've got 4 variations on Moran sheaths from Edge-Works that I've been scoping out for the last 2 weeks. I'll be providing my impressions and recommendations back to Scott and the gang soon. The Spydie Moran/Edge-work sheath systems are hard to beat for the price. Glad to hear you have been well satisfied with having made a choice to buy such a setup.

If there is something specific you'd like comments on, please don't hesitate to ask via e-mail.

Bob,

Thanks for the additional info. Sure is fun picking out a new custom knife project or two, isn't it? My new ones are not really new designs as much as proven designs with the new material. I am looking forward to testing the talonite versus the Boye cobalt on different materials.

Interested to hear that Scott is looking at a couple of new Moran sheaths. Keep us posted here on the Spydie forum. I have to admit that I predominantly use the slip sheath either as a neck sheath or pocket sheath. The military sheath is great but the slip sheath just gets the call more often.

Now for the hard part - waiting patiently for two master craftsmen to create my new tools

Waldo,

A minor clarification: Scott and the gang aren't looking at "new" Moran sheaths but minor variations based upon suggestions, feedback, etc. I sent Scott my impressions yesterday. I'm looking forward to hearing his reactions to my critique. If any of these alterations are to be incorporated, I'm sure Scott will give me permission to post about them here on Bladeforums.com.
