RIP Duane Sitflyer

The scuba pic speaks volumes.
From the Traditional Mug Shots thread. Sadly, that is the only one of Duane's photos, which still shows :(

We just got back from Anthony's Key off of Roatan Honduras. I told the photographer that was shadowing our group that if he was going to photograph me, to let me know so I could pull the mask and regulator. I had wanted such a photo for several years, he done good. That shot was 50-60 feet below the waves :)
Very moving- I’m sorry to see him go. I enjoyed his posts. And what an impressive list of adventures!

We should all be so lucky to carry such a positive temperament in the face of that kind of adversity. Seemed like a great guy.
His PMs were incredible Dan, right until the end
Aw man, this sucks. Sorry to read about Duane's prolonged illness and passing, I had no idea. He was a great porch denizen , and he will surely be missed.

I am often guilty of not getting to know our members as well as I should. Many of us, myself included, will suffer in silence, not wanting to burden others with our pain or troubles. However, the porch is a unique place, that brings us all together with a single focus. Then we find out we're not so different, and we share many of the same highs and lows. Events like this remind us that someone's always here on the porch to lend an ear.
Nicely said Glenn
Thank you for letting us know, Jack. I didn’t know Duane well, but I appreciated his contributions to the porch. My condolences to those who will no doubt miss his presence and friendship.

thanks for letting us know Jack Black Jack Black , my condolences, @sitflyer was definitely one of the regulars around these parts. My condolences to the family.
Thanks guys, Duane's illness was a secret I've kept for 6 months. I'm gladly I wasn't the only one here he shared it with

Sorry to hear about Duane's passing, but thanks for letting us know, Jack.
I didn't have extensive interactions with Duane on The Porch, but he seemed to be kind and helpful, with a good sense of humor.
When I first joined BF, I always admired the ebony GEC #12 Powderhorn that he carried frequently. His enthusiasm for his MAM knives from Portugal, and the information and advice he provided to me about them led to my picking up a couple of MAM models relatively early in my "knife journey".
I'll miss Duane's contributions here, and that King Crimson avatar.

I remember those knives too Gary :)

This is very sad to hear. I'm relatively new here. So, I didn't know him well myself. But, it is clear that he touched many lives in this community and I'm certain countless more outside of this community. I wish the best for his family and hope we can continue his legacy here on The Porch.

RIP Duane. Sad news. I did not know him well but understood that he was a well respected member. Things like this make me want to meet as many people on this forum. Our passion for knives is only secondary to the friendships created. My deepest condolences to his friends and family. Nice write up Jack.
