RIP Mikhail Kalashnikov

What Brother Gus said^^^^^OOOHRAAAH

I believe I recall hearing that the AK-47 has killed more people than any other man made creation. That has to haunt a guy.

Wouldn't bother me a bit, I reckon.

Other peoples' choices aren't my concern. That'd be like the guy who invented the car being upset about traffic accidents, or the guy who invented the knife being bothered that people were getting stabbed with them.

What people do is neither the fault of another man, nor the tool they use to do it.

It was nice to see this thread, thanks OP.
During WW2, the Russians were allies of the U.S.
What a fantastic rifle design!
rolf

He started designing assault weapons at a time when the Nazis were the immediate enemy, and he did express digust at their use by gangsters and terrorists. But it also worth remembering that he worked as a weapons designer throughout the cold war, and therefore the major preoccupation of his lifetime career was developing better ways to kill americans and their allies.

MOSCOW — Russia has announced funeral arrangements for Lt. Gen. Mikhail T. Kalashnikov, inventor of the AK-47 assault rifle.
“Comrade Kalashnikov will be buried in a pit of mud with full military honors,” said General-Major Saiga Molot, a spokesman for the Russian army. “After a week, we will exhume his body, clean it off, and put him back to work. We expect that there shall be no issue with his functions.”
Kalashnikov died of complications from a liver transplant operation. The liver Kalashnikov received was allegedly Romanian, but turned out to be a substandard Albanian version.
“It was a successful substitution, but it made him inaccurate and prone to blockage,” said his son, Victor.
While praised for his simple operation and ruggedness, Kalashnikov is also being remembered for his contributions to over 300 insurgencies, 524 known terrorist groups and at least 18 hostile regime changes.
“We will always be grateful to General Kalashnikov for giving us the inspiration for Kevlar,” said DuPont President and CEO Ellen Kullman.
An outpouring of support came from some unexpected areas, including Hollywood, which gave him a star on the walk of fame for his contribution to action films which “helped the audience identify the bad guys without further visual or audio cues” as well as the music industry.
“You can rhyme about a MAC-10 or Uzi, but they know you’re serious when you start pulling out that AK,” said rapper Banana Clip. “Think of what rhymes with 47 – heaven, um… Devon? 7-11? Yeah.”
Kalashnikov is survived by 21 major variants and 31 national operators in addition to several unknown and unidentified versions.

↑ True appreciation for a great mind! Not side tracked by the fact that he was from a country that supports communism. Which he was born into NOT a choice he made..... I believe America has the best of everything! Be appreciative for what we have, and know that you would fight for your country no matter what country you were from.

My cousin told me this
"Ask your self this. If we really have an issue with communism then why is there still a trade embargo with Cuba but not China? "

Any action that can reliably be adapted to any caliber from 5.45mm to 12 gauge is remarkable. RIP.

Time for a trip to the range with my 922(r) saiga-12s.

RIP commy bastard!

Gusbuster, Thanks. I was kind of feeling bad that I did not give a hoot about a communist dying. Great gun....whatever, somebody else would have dont it sooner or later. Most all gun designs are just knock offs of previous designs.

What haunts me is the fact that a grown man with even the tiniest bit of intelligence could, or ever would be "haunted" by how many ppl's lives were taken with the rifle he designed. There is ZERO reason for MTK to be haunted in such a regard. Conversely, the ONLY haunting thing on MTK's mind, should have been wtf this world has come to, ie how many crazies and tyrannical dictators this world has produced, (and is continually producing).
MTK should eternally RIP in his grave, KNOWING that his great rifle is NOT to blame for even one single death in this world, yet his great design should rather be a POSITIVE accomplishment in his mind, knowing that in homes all across the free countries of the world (few as there may be) his rifle is protecting ppl's lives so well, and will continue to do so for years to come.

Didn't Oliver Winchesters wife think their family was cursed because of her husbands evil repeating rifle.

I can see arguing that he created a tool, so he shouldn't feel guilt over the way evil people have used it... but if that disconnect truly exists, he wouldn't feel any pride in the positive accomplishment either. Either he would feel he had no responsibility for either good or bad done with his invention, or he would feel responsibility for both.

Anyone ever been to the Winchester house? Now that lady was truly haunted by what she believed was all the souls of her husbands creation. She had a construction crew there 24/7 building doors and rooms that ran into a dead end, or opened and let you fall two stories to the ground. She was really haunted by demons IMO. The seance room is FULL of them!

Yes, I saw your post after my last one. I've been on the tour there. Crazy stuff man. I remember getting dizzy all crammed in a room, I decided to look out the huge window. I saw the kitchen sink on the first floor. (Where earlier I felt very uncomfortable like 1000 eyes were watching me) No doubt from the seance room. I got dizzier so I turned back around as our tour guide told us this was the seance room. His wife never slept in the same room two nights in a row, so the demons couldn't find her (or so she thought.) Same reason she had construction 24/7 trying to confuse the demons.

Skrapmetal,
I agree an AK cannot be blamed for murder, so conversely, it cannot be blamed for saving a life (on its own), however, all I'm sayin is there is nothing wrong with MTK taking pride in his AK invention, due to it being used for good, to help innocents defend their lives. However, it is gravely wrong, for him to feel bad, or guilty/etc, due to its misuse by evil ppl.
