RIP pockets

Since the ZT 0560BW is not g10, I wonder what causes the pockets to rip? Think it is the gimping near the end of the handle by the pocket clip?

Jimping .

I know :P and were you answering my question? lol. Maybe the jeans just have weak stitching which would be disappointing. Because the other jeans I have from the same company seem not to be wearing in the pockets nearly as much even being older.

If you rotate knives, a g10 handle could have frayed the seam/thread and then the clip from one of your ZT's pulled it apart. Once enough damage is done to the pocket, you cannot stop the process!

Jimping .

It happened to me carrying a large 21 sebenza... no significant jimping, beveled corners, rounded ends and spine.
It comes from the constant wear on a small area, the clip sliding back and forth minutely when walking and sitting/standing up, drawing and sheathing.
The Whole process is rough when confined to 1" of fabric.

My EDC rotation is ZT 0560BW, ZT 0620 and ZT 0301 . My newest pair of jeans just has some loose stitching so far... and I am like fuck don't want to ruin the pocket XD it has only been 2-3 weeks! lol

Yeah... it seems there is a fine line of stitching within the pocket that holds the stitching that you can see on the outside of pocket in place, and it wears out the interior stitching make the exterior stitching come loose and thus the process has begun.

In your guys opinion, does it even matter if the pocket gets ripped/frayed a little? Is it worth it to even try to avoid?

It doesn't bother me until it becomes a hindrance when getting my knife out and back.

That's why I stitch a patch over it when they are new. Just use a 1"×2" piece of old jeans so it doesn't stand out too much.

I didn't use a full G10 knife for a while because I worried about this, but now I think it is the clip on my knives that I carry that cause this as pretty much all my EDC's are ZT's with frame locks. Yes, it is the sacrifice and sign of a knife user XD

Frame locks with the cutout on the outside are known for tearing up pockets. I still don't know why anyone makes a frame lock with the cutout on the outside. It looks ugly and it tears up pockets.

To the OP, buy cheaper jeans. :)

Carhartt's Rip Stop Pants. Built-in knife protection.

Wow, I've never had that issue before with pocket damage and I've been carrying a knife for roughly 30 years!

I treat it like wear bars on tires. Once the pocket starts to rip, it is a sign that I should replace the jeans. I'm not in and out of my pocket with the knife all day though, only a 5 max on an average day.

So I was looking at all my jeans today and I realized that they all were torn/worn out in the same area.... The front right pocket :P Kinda annoying because the jeans I own are $150+ does anybody else jeans suffer from the EDC :P ? What do you guys do to minimize the damage by knives, or do you not care?

$150 jeans? Well, just because a pair of pants costs that much doesn't necessarily make them ideal. Bend the clip a little, your spendy jeans should be fine.

Spendy? and I know... I like to think that cost = quality. I think atm I may just carry a Victorninox Cadet as in my current life situation I don't need a large knife and when I do I will wear different types of pants XD

Most if not all my jeans are ripped apart by my emersons, and only with the emersons i had this "issue",and since i won't stop carrying my emerson this is what i didi with the already torn pockets !!!

Put some leather on the torn border of the pocket, and didi myself, otherwise wifey will get even madder :)

I kind of accept the fact, that its part of owning emersons...at least for me :D

I do this same type patch on some of my pants except I use Tear Mender fabric glue instead of stitching and it works well.

I don't wear jeans often, but when I do they're Wranglers from Walmart & they cost under $20. I usually wear 5:11 pants because that's what we wore for duty & I have enough of them to last me for years. The 5:11 originals & tac-lites have reinforcement at the corners of the front & hip pockets. They're a heck of a lot more comfortable than jeans & have more pockets, too.
