RIP to my good friend Derrick Bohn.

That's just awful. What a super nice and genuine guy he was. My condolences to his family, friends and coworkers.

Shocking and horrible. Went to the Oregon store whenever I was down that way. Ordered more than few from the web store. A good guy to deal with, although never met him. I know from my recent experience that losing your spouse is truly awful. I remember his wife’s battle with cancer. Now losing him in the middle of moving, his family has my prayers and condolences.

Very sad news.

My sincere condolences to his family for their great loss.

What a shock and a tremendous loss to the knife community. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

My thoughts go out to the family and friends. Such a sudden loss is always such a hard blow.

My uncle died on the table during a routine procedure yesterday, so I can truly relate to how Derrick's family must be feeling.

God Bless,
Bill

Thank you all for grieving with me here. I love Derrick, and cant believe how much he gave as a friend. His support and advice was very important to this community.

Never met the man, yet always admired his demeanor and often recommended his store to knife newbies. Sad news and a big reality check. I wish nothing but the best for his family and co-workers. God bless.

Truly sad news! Massive loss for this community. I didn't know Derrick personally...but his legend preceded him. He was the standard in this business in both customer service and as a human being.

RIP

I was bummed out to read this yesterday. Terrible news for the knife community and I can't imagine what his family and friends are going through. I only had a few interactions with him, but he seemed like a great person.

So sorry to hear this. Always a great business to deal with. Condolences to his family. Rest in peace.

I was shocked and saddened by the news that Derrick Bohn passed away suddenly and very much too soon for such a loved and respected guy. My condolences to his family, friends, and employees.

Derrick left a great legacy in the knife community for makers and customers alike. He helped promote many knife makers to gain broad market exposure they didn't have and grow their respective businesses as a result. I remember that I purchased my first nicer fixed blade knife from him over a decade ago when he was a full-time Pastor in Oklahoma with KSF as a side business. His product recommendations carried a lot of weight even back then. I learned a lot from his instructional videos on sharpening and maintaining a knife, as well as other subjects. I am thankful for his consistently great service on many purchases over the years. I am very thankful that I got to meet and talk to him at Blade the last two years. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic in person. He was the real deal.

Rest in peace Derrick. You will be missed!

Phil

Every Day Commentary wrote a great tribute to Derrick over on their site. It's not only worth the read...but it's also a great reminder of who we are as a community.

Here's an excerpt:

As many of you know by now Derrick passed away unexpectedly just as KSF was about relocate a second time in a handful of years. It is people like Derrick that make it clear to me that knives are really just a conceit, a well-intentioned fib, to allow us to meet each other and have something to bond over. Our community, and humanity as a whole, took a loss a few days ago. I hope that Wendy, Derrick’s wife, and his three daughters take inspiration from what a great man Derrick was in this time when their hearts are breaking. I hope that the core of people at KSF remember Derrick’s lesson in life—treat people fair and you will receive it in return. And I hope that people in the knife community remember that knives are awesome, as Derrick would tell us during a semi weekly YouTube video, but the people you meet talking about them are even better.

A KSF sheath is the only name brand that routinely makes it into my back pocket. The other is homemade kydex. I met Derrick when he visited the Fiddleback table last year at Blade 2017. Super nice guy! Andy, you called him over to look at one of my old knives and introduced us. I could tell by your interactions that you guys went way back and that you genuinely liked him. I am sorry for your loss and for others that were close to him.
