Just saw that there will be a limited run of the Ritter RSK MK1 and the mini in CPM M4. Don't know much about this steel. I understand that it isn't ss. I have the Ritter is S30V, how does that compare to CPM M4?

You are correct, it is not stainless and will rust if not cared for in a reasonable manner. The blade is protected with a DLC coating, so it's just the edge (and laser markings) you have to worry about.

As for comparing CPM S30V and CPM M4, the M4 is going to allow a finer edge, if desired, and provide better edge retention, even compared the the S30v's excellent edge retention. It's also very tough for a tool steel. I am really impressed with it, especially compared to M2 which was a favorite.

Thanks, Doug I really like the one I have now and appreciate your input. Thanks for all your work.

I couldn't totally resist the temptation. Only bought one MK1, though. :D

Thanks Doug for another reason to buy one of you knives.

the magic of m4 is the great edge durability while allowing thin edges with great side load strength. wish i could get this in queen or great eastern folders. a super mod alloy in ole timey patterns. the best of both worlds.

M4 is the best at 65 Rc it is still pretty tough, and the wear resistance is fantastic. problemis though it is not very stain resistant, and that is more important in folders than in fixed blade b/c they are hard to clean and dry

That's why it's DLC coated. At least in this edition.

IMO, and this is only my opinion, CPM M4 is a large step up from S30V. I can't wait to try one out.

I've got the Ritter M2 Large version and it's ALWAYS in one of my climbing or back-packs. The design is very comfortable to use and the blade is wide and came from the factory... sharp!

Just ordered two of the large M4 versions and these too will also be put to hard use!

Nice going Doug! ;)

240 of each size and I managed to get in on one! This makes me very happy as I've been fantasizing for the longest time about the M2 run I missed.

I took a mini-size and only one, although up to three pieces are allowed per email/mailing address. I very briefly considered grabbing two more and flipping them later for a nice little profit, but then I remembered how much I HATE it when I see people selling multiple M4 AFCK's and M2 Ritter Grips at friggin' ridiculous prices. (And there's also the small detail of me not being able to afford two more:o.) Yeah, it's one's right to buy them if they're available, and it's one's right to earn money and profit... but it kinda stinks and is the type of behaviour I want nothing to do with. Cool if it's a regular production model and you have to the foresight to sense that it'll be in demand at a premium much later when disco'd. But when there's only a limited number available, to just swoop in and gobble them up for no other reason than $$$, especially when others would sell a testicle for just one for honest to goodness use... well, not so cool. If you want to earn some extra money then get another job and work for it. What? Bitter? Me? Nah.;)

It'll be interesting to see how BM does with the DLC. Past black coatings have been only so-so. I love my M2 RSKs, so these will be very welcome additions, though it's hard to imagine the blade itself could perform much better.

I said I'd never buy a Benchmade ever again about five and a half years ago (and therefore missed the M2 version).

So I found myself surprised to realize I lie. :foot: nom nom nom order well, cancelled the order, but still :foot: Oh well, one more for someone else.

Mine will need a trip to Phil's house (and furnace) and I bet sodak's will, too.

As another poster pointed out, the DLC coating is the solution to that potential issue. The only exposed steel, the edge and laser markings, is on the exposed part of the blade which is easily cleaned or dried after use.

DLC is an order of magnitude more abrasive resistant than the coating used on the M2 RSKs. I think you're going to really like it.

As I understand it, you are not charged until the knives ship, but I don't get involved in that aspect of it, that is entirely Aeromedix.com's area of responsibility, so best to contact them directly.

Oh my, prepare to be amazed! CPM M4 really is a step up from conventional M2. The combination of the added Vanadium and Carbon and the CPM production process makes a noticeable difference.
