Ritter MK1 in CPM M4

Hi Guys -

I am on the site and want to pre-order one, but I do not see where I can choose the blade type - I would not want the partially serrated blade.

Does anyone know if the M4 blade will be plain or partially serrated?

best regards -

mqqn

*edit* - I ordered one anyway.

Just a note in response to a number of PMs and emails:

Anyone pre-ordering both a full-size and a Mini at the same time will get matching serial numbers.

If you pre-order on separate orders, say you ordered a full size and then decided afterward to order a Mini, you need to add a request in the comment box with the second order, preferably with the original order number for reference.

Hope this helps.

Are they all plain edge? I hope so because I ordered one and I don't remember choosing a blade type.

do you accept paypal?
if not should i send in my m.o. now or when the knives are ready?

As I understand it, you are not charged until the knives ship, but I don't get involved in that aspect of it, that is entirely Aeromedix.com's area of responsibility, so best to contact them directly.

This is part of the order confirmation I received a few minutes after placing my order:

Order Billing Summary

Sub-Total: 145.00
Sales Tax: 0.00
Shipping: 34.00 ( USPS Global Express )
Grand Total: 179.00
Payments Received: 179.00
Due Balance: 0.00

At some point during the ordering process it was stated that credit cards won't be charged until the knives actually ship, which they estimate to be around early February. But as you can see from the billing summary section of my order confirmation, my $179.00 has been paid and I have a due balance of zero. I should confirm with my credit card company. I'll do that soon and post the results.

FWIW I ordered by phone and was told that my card would definitely NOT be charged until the knife ships.

So, two days ago I had some Christmas money and I used it to buy a couple of Kershaw Damascus folders. Now I find out that, if I had known about it 48 hours sooner, I could have had a Ritter MK1 in CPM M4 for just a few dollars more. I can't wait to get my Kershaws, so I can use them to cut my wrists.

They pre-auth your CC, but that pre-auth will be deleted in a few days and then the card will not be charged until they actually ship in February...I believe that's how it works.

In reference to pre ordering M4s, NO ONE IS CHARGED TILL THE KNIFE SHIPS! Due to the way credit card back end billing programs work, credit cards are verified when the order is taken. This only shows the credit card is valid. It does not take money from your credit card account and it does not send us any payment. It does say "Payments Received" since we normally do not have back orders (our policy is to ship same day) and it would cost a ridiculous amount to reprogram the back end to fix this erroneous "Payment Received" message.

Feel free to call or Email us anytime if you have concerns or questions about credit card charges or purchase of the Ritter M4 knife.

Sorry about any confusion.

This is very tempting but doug, why the lower hardness?

That's what re heat treating to 64-66 RC is for! I have my M4 Rift and Bradley both going in for that treatment (and a diet) and I can't wait to see the true potential of M4's edge holding capability unleashed.

Mike

P.S. My addiction to M4 may make me order this knife as well, even though I'm pre ordered on the Ti M4 Millie. I've always liked the Ritter Grips, add M4 and you have a heck of a combination of lock, lightweight, Blade shape, and steel.

I'm afraid your hands are tied on this one, Mike. It's a moly-tungsten tool steel and the good folks at Crucible were able to stuff 4% vanadium into it with no noticeable shortcomings. Add the design from Pardue and Ritter and the likelihood one or two of your friends in the knifemaking game can tweak the hardness and thickness of the blade and, well, what can you do?

Mine will need a trip to Phil's house (and furnace) and I bet sodak's will, too.

I assume the furnace bit is about this M4 batch needing to be re-heat treated harder. But who is this Phil you speak of and what else, other than heat treating, can he do to improve a Ritter Grip in CPM M4?

Phil Willson, http://www.seamountknifeworks.com/. He is a knifemaker who is quite knowledgeable in steels and heat treatments, particularly CPM steels. He does his own heat treatment, and has re-hardened many forumite's blades.

can anyone share how much a re-hardening by Phil Wilson will cost me? I've been dying to try one of his re-heat treats, from the days of Cliff Stamp's absolute praise of his HT. Phil's knowledge of HT is also attested to by quite a few knifemakers I respect.
