River City Sheathes / Mike Sastre

I thought something was wrong - Mike was really quick to respond in taking my order and sending me instructions on how to pay (I live in New Zealand) in late Feb. Duly sent a bank cheque which arrived in early March AND drop shipped a brand new Ontario Hell's Belle to him.

So he has MY money and MY brand new knife... I have sent him at least 4 emails in the last month just for an update, but have not heard a thing.

He said it was going to take 2 weeks.... but looks like he is missing in action since April 3rd....
 
HELLO EVERYBODY! IT WAS A GOOD DAY FOR ME 2 DAYS AGO. MIKE SENT ME SOME OF MY KNIVES BACK WITH SOME IWB SHEATHS. YES, I DID HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM. THE WORK IS MOST EXCELLENT. SOME FORUM MEMBERS MAY FIND THIS OFFENSIVE BUT I'M SORRY FOR THAT. HE TRULY DOES DO GOOD WORK. I'M STILL WAITING ON ANOTHER SHIPMENT FROM HIM. FOR THOSE WHO REQUEST MIKE, HAVE PATIENTS, I WAITED OVER 5 MONTHS AND THE WAIT WAS WORTH IT.

IF WAR IS HELL, TAKE A BETTER PITCHFORK THAN THE DEVIL :D
 
Well Lucky You! I don't find you thinking he does good work offensive nor have I see anyone question his work. However I do find a 4 month wait with no communication offensive, I don't care how good he or anyone else is for that matter.
 
In all fairness to Mike I thought it was only fair to post the resolution to the situation. I called him yet again yesterday and actually managed to get him on the phone this time. He gave me a long story about how busy he has been and this problem and that, etc. He also told me that he had meant to call me as he had mailed me my knives on Monday and that I should have them on Weds. I took this with a grain of salt but said thanks. He then asked me how I liked the 3 spyderco sheathes he made and mailed to me a month ago, I let him know that I had never received them. Turns out that he had mailed them to my prior address with a couple of digits in the address transposed and an extra digit thrown in for good measure. He promised to send out the 3 spyderco sheathes to my work address, as I had requested for all of my things, that day (Weds).

So Weds. afternoon I recieved my 3 knives and the three sheathes as he had said & I must say the quality is everything that one hears about Mike A++. This morning I recieved an email telling me that the spyderco sheathes went out in the mail, I will let you know if I recieve them in the next few days.

So the long and short of my dealings with Mike, the products are great without any question. Would I deal with him again or reccomend him to others? Only one knife at a time, never in a rush and I would walk in knowing that I am in for a 3-6 month wait. I'm just happy to have my knives back home again and 2 of them on me even now :D

Mike contacted me a few days ago and the knife and sheath has turned up!! :cool:

The sheath work is top rate (a Southern Comfort for a Ontario Bagwell Bowie)... the knife itself is a bit disappointing.

So yes, Mike does do great work - he just needs to keep in touch with customers and set the expectation that things take 2+ months due to his backlog.

So a happy ending (for me at least!)
Would I use Mike again? Probably yes, but not if I was in a hurry to get my stuff... and he's probably ok with "in house" models. Custom sheathing is probably what takes all the time up.
