Rivets on a sheath

RC, I too use the pre-dyed latigo 90% of the time, but when I don't, I fit everything up the way I want it, put a couple good stitches in to hold it tight, dye it, remove those stitches, then finish stitch it. It's a lot of trouble, but you're right; the wax just gets crumbly and the sinew starts fraying.

See this is a pretty old thread but i have just started adding rivits to my sheaths. I kinda like the look and im putting it there to help protect the stiching more than anything. Over the years i have had a couple knives actually manage to get between the welt and cut the first few threads of the stiching. They had to be putting the thing in crooked and jam it in for it to happen but never the less it did and my way of thinking was if I had a copper rivit just infront of the last threads it would provide a lil extra protection. Untill they realize they are crooked or maybe even act as a guide for the edge to ride down into the sheath. Not ideal but easier to touch up an edge than fix the sheath.
