RMD LE vs. RMD

I sent the message, so hopefully I caught it :) I figure, if I get chosen to buy one. great, if not, I order the CG when I get the money on thursday and I can maybe upgrade later on. Besides, CG or LE, I can't lose ;) Thanks guys!

Personally, I prefer G10 by far over the other materials. It is heavier, but imo it is grippier, and it is impervious to just about everything. As far as the Satin finish goes, it will patina over time with use unless you immediately wipe it down after use, and even then, acidic things like lemons will likely still patina the metal. Here is what my Bowie RMD looks like now:

HERE is the thread where I did the forced patina.

I thought I saw the answer to this but can't find it: Is the LE thinner than the CG? And by how much? I'm sure it's plenty tough but just curious :P

No. As I said before, they're both constructed of 3/16" thick blade stock. The reason the LE is thinner is because it's uncoated and some material needs to be removed to satin-finish the blade.

Okay sorry :P You wouldn't happen to have a link to how to force a patina or rust coat it do you? I wanted satin so I could use it to eat with easier but don't want it rusting xD

Nope. But then I don't use my satin-finished RMD. She's a safe queen. I use my CG instead. :)

Look at my post above. I had intended on the pictures and patina link to be there earlier, but my computer crashed right as I was posting.

SpyderPhreak,
I abosolutely love that Clip Point Bowie RMD. It is my favorite looking RMD without a doubt and just turn's me on :D I asked Eric if I could have my RMD LE made that way unfortunately, it could not be. The patina look's sharp and a person could also blue it if they wanted too.

They are indeed pretty sexy! :D I thought about hot bluing, but decided to just use and abuse her! ;)

U can use the same sheath but it'll rattle a bit because of the difference in thickness caused by the coating :) I had a stripped rmd in a standard sheath and it moved around a bit but was still held in tight at the handle (it was a steelnut kydex sheath) :)

Right. Most kydex benders design their sheaths to pinch the handle rather than the blade in order to miminize blade scratching. And a well-designed leather sheath for an RMD should fit either blade properly.

One thing I'd do is let your bender know that you have an LE rather than a CG. The best ones will compensate for the difference in thickness when designing your sheath. They'll also incorporate a drain hole at the bottom of the sheath to allow water to pass through.

I was going to order mashed cats because I've heard good things. Unfortunately, I'll have to send my blade when I get it to get the sheath made. :( So sad.

i am going to use my existing azwelke ratmandu sheath with mine. his dont touch the blade due to him using spacers when making them and it grips the handles as its holding point. so with his i dont think it matters as far as thickness so you can order a sheath for the standard ratmandu without sending your blade away.

Right. I doubt Jeff Law at Rainwalker Creations would need your RMD LE to craft a sheath for you either. When it comes to having a sheath made, you've got lots of options that shouldn't require separating you from your new knife. :)

Do what I did. Put up the LE and buy a CG. Then use the CG. If you don't like the coating on the CG, strip it. And if the CG gets some spots on it, who cares? You've still got the LE. Problem solved. :)

If only.. But I only have 350 to spend so if I get both i can't get this for EDC:

And if I try to EDC that it has to be open carry which I'd get looks from people, and I have no license nor ability to really conceal a 5.5" blade :P
