RMD LE vs. RMD

I'll leave it to you to figure out what "unintentional major damage" means. But if you do damage it, I wouldn't send it back with a picture of yourself wearing a hockey mask. ;)

I got my RMD LE today. I think you will be hard pressed to damage it. I would describe it as feeling like..... a heavy duty RMD.

Really? How is it that it feels any heavier duty? I understand that the G10 will feel a bit more substantial in hand, but the blade should really be no different. Please elaborate.

Unfortunately, I had to sell my CG to get the LE, so I cannot make a side by side comparison. My statement about feeling heavy duty were in regard's to the previous post concerning damage. My first impression of the RMD LE was that this knife could not be easily damaged. It seem's to have a bit more heft than the RMD and also thought it might chop better based on the weight however, since I am going by memory on what the RMD "felt" like, I could be wrong, as I am not known for my memory abilities:) The G-10 handles do add more weight however, the knife seem's thicker and more robust to me although, I thought I read it was going to be made of thinner stock? Like the RMD, the handle's feel great in hand. So yeah, too me, it feel's like a heavy duty version of the RMD and the first thought that popped in my mind. I look forward to hearing other member's thought's especially, someone that has both, and can make a side by side comparison. Sorry if that answer does not help. I am a little under the weather and did not even feel like taking a photo and posting it but see that another member has.

I see. Fwiw, the cg version is actually thicker at about 0.189" (3/16" steel stock plus powder coating), whereas the LE (or the other Satin finished RMD's) are about 0.165", slightly less than the 3/16" stock due to grinding a bit away for the satin finish.

SpyderPhreak,
Yes, I am sure your right. There is little difference by eye and memory. You will not feel under-knifed by no mean's, and do not worry about damage, as it's built right.

It's a tactile (as opposed to tactical) illusion based on the increased weight of the G10 and the decreased weight of the blade resulting from the additional stock removal required to satin-finish the blade. It feels heavier in the hand because more of the weight of the knife is in the handle. Nothing to be concerned about.

I have found the RMD to be the definition of a camping/hunting/survival knife as knives this size have served these purposes for many years. Mine travels with me often.

I have to agree. The RMD is one of the finest designs Jerry Busse ever produced, and he's produced some humdingers! I'm just grateful he made it in SR101 so ordinary folks could afford it.

I have a CG RMD but with G10 handles. The G10 does feel really nice but regular micarta serves it's purpose !
