Rmj tactical vs swamprat

On pure aesthetics, i'd pick the RMJ, but i'd feel 100% comfortable taking either one into any conceivable survival situation

Now we are talking, I love pics :)

And that looks awesome WJC01, if you really have a swamp rat id love a side by side photo!! One day i will be a big baller and ill have me a shrike too :) I cant deny the head looks awesome, i love them lines! Im not so in love with the thick handle though, how is it balanced, at what point? Does it throw well? Thanks for the photo!

Oh,....The swamp rat was just trying to get away from the well dressed political looking shrike, us rats dont mesh well with the corporate white collar world.....

This is the only Hawk I own, would love to have a Swamp Rat but even the big ballers got a spendin' limit!. ( I got the RMJ for a really good price).
I've used it for everything but throwing. If you search this forum you'll see pics of me cleaning fish, attacking a dummy head, copperhead kill etc.
It seems to balance where the handle begins. Handle really isn't too thick.
Great pics,kept posting.
I'll have to take some new ones. . . .

For me if money was option (when is this ever possible) I would jump all over an S13, but as it is a KDSH or one of Storm Crows lovely pieces would have to be my choice based on cost alone.

Car - steel

Cobra helicopter - aluminum

I'm not saying that one hawk is tougher than the other, but if someone is saying that chopping through a helicopter shows greater toughness than chopping through a car then that is just not true.

WJC, just seen a lot of your posts, some very cool pictures!

I believe ill be getting one of Storm Crows hawks on the next batch, I want a shrike... but i want a steel heart more, and if im spending that type of money im going with the Busse.

Amflud, thats pretty much exactly what i was thinking.

hey guys , do you know the estwing tomahawk ? just cost 40USD. i ordered two of estwing hawks , this moths maybe deliver to my home , china.

Well I got my storm crow hawk on thursday, no pics, sorry. But I did take it to the woods and worked the hell out of it. I love it, it chops great, side by side with my cold steel machete, i would take the hawk any day. It throws good, and seems to hold up really well. All in all, its a great buy for the money. Im very pleased. Chopping through an aluminum camper shell and punching holes through a steel drum, it held up just fine. Just the coating wore off. I feel I could trust this hawk through whatever I need it for. Just need my sheath and im good to go. It will be with me on all my hikes and hunts from now on. Thanks Stormcrow.

They are a good buy for the money, you should be happy.

Rodriguez, I am glad to see I am not the only one who loves their storm crow hawk. For the price it is and the quality you get, it cannot be beat

Rodriguez7 - Glad to hear it's serving you well. If you get the opportunity to take any pictures, I'd love to see them.

which one is tougher? a destruction test will tell us more.without a D-TEST here on both i think less carbon content, higher impact toughness , so rmj's is tougher than KD , especially rmj's are differently heat treaded.

i really wanna know how much punishment a swamp rat knife or hawk can take, but what a pity that the cost hindered me from knowing it & NOSS was gone:D

i ordered one KD from a local dealer ,in china, it cost me for 2000+RMB and 4 months waiting time.

In theory the RMJ will be tougher based on being diff heat treated and its 4140 and the KDSH is 52100. The Swamp will hold an edge a lot longer but the RMJ will be tougher based on simply on the steel used.

The Swamp Rat knives and hawks are FAR tougher than people give them credit for. They can take anything you can throw at them on paper the Busse INFI knives might be slightly tougher but I can not think of something that would break a Swamp Rat that wouldn't break a Busse. The Swamp is my go to choice for extreme use knives because I know they can take it.

SRKW's SR101 is some of the best steel I've ever used. I was STOKED when their hawks came out. But I really found the design unappealing. I recently bought an RMJ Jenny Wren & really there are a lot of reasons why it's the one I picked.

Overall very "tool like" design.
Nicely done flared handle.
Perfectly shaped G10 handles (I usually don't like "shrunken handle" scales but these are well done!)
Overall Size/Weight
Apparently well designed, high quality sheath
Steel reputation
Company reputation
Versatility of the Head shape
High, flat grinds
Sharpened on every face of the head
ect...

It really is an excellent tool. The only thing I don't like about it is the price! I feel very much like I feel about Strider Knives with this one. I have several Striders and they've really "nailed it" with some designs. I don't think a company could make a US made knife as quality as a Sebenza and charge much less than CRK does. But I'm sure Spyderco, Benchmade or KAI could make the exact same SnG and get it to your door for little over $200. Strider just happens to be a company who makes a few particular knives I really find appealing for various reasons and the going price is steep! ...but IMO worth it. Same with this Jenny Wren. I'm not aware of anything quite like it.
