I'm moving to Rhode Island, their blade carry limit is 3" and I would like to get the most out of that 3" that I can. Also i have large hands, I'd like a nice big handle on the knife to fill my hand. I need a 3" tank.

heavy = no problem
$200-$300 is good, maybe more.

thanks in advance

The newest one is the Benchmade MPR 755. 2.9" blade, framelock. It's a hoss, but it still fits the watchpocket of my Wranglers.

There are a coupla threads on it here in General Discussion. A few have found some QC issues, so it might be best if you have a local dealer to 'try before you buy'. If you mail order and get one with issues, Benchmade is a stand up company that will take care of it.

Here's one I really like, A custom Martin knives Lg. Tejas at $325 it right in your price range. The blade is 3"

Great little folder, I've had this one for a couple weeks and it's top notch, nice
fit and finish, smooth action, good stout blade and solid lock up.
Excellent knife for the money, especially for custom made.

Here's some comparison pics of the knives recommended so far, honestly from the description of your post you would be best suited with the Benchmade.

It wouldn't be my first pick but the Sibert might be the one your looking for.
Blade right at 3" and it's built like a tank, sounds right up your alley.
Plus it's the least expensive of the three

Thanks for the great pictures, the 755 does look like a monster. although benchmade has disappointed me before.

the tejas is a beauty, I like the looks of the grind and the lockbar.

Benchmade has great designs and materials but too many come with flaws, That 755
I have is rock solid but there is some movement in the blade and it's uncentered.

The tejas is a great knife if the size fits you, I ordered mine to my personal specifications
(size, color, bolsters) and the Martins had it to me in less then a week, excellent turn around.

I hate to be the one to say it, but how about a small sebenza? It's $330, so it's only $30 over the limit. Don't let the looks fool you, it's more of a tank than you think.

The general consensus is that Benchmade has stepped it up considerably with the MPR.

I am usually disappointed with Benchmade, but I will probably buy the MPR.

The old Cold Steel ak-47 with the axis type lock. It's 3 inches of bomb proof knife.

One of my Fav <3" knives is the Mini Griptilian. ...I mean, it is certainly not the fanciest folder out there, but it is very well made, good quality, blade steel, ect... I carry mine as much as my Sebenza and more than my Military!

I need to get one of those BM Siberts. I already wanted one, but I had no idea they were THAT beastly.:thumbup::thumbup: Now I REALLY want one.

Another tank-like folder is the Emerson mini CQC-7. Or any of their "minis", for that matter. Yet another, but a bit harder to find, is the Buck-Strider 881. Those things are bricks. Very cool.

I consider the Sage 2 to be more of a delicate slicer or Gentleman's folder than a robust knife. Mine gives me the impression that I could snap it in half without much effort. JMO. :)

Benchmade Sibert is what I would go with. It fits right in with my Hinderer's, Umnumzaan, and ZT's. A real beast, easily the beefiest 3" blade folder I have seen.

I'd go with the Strider PT. It's a mini tank and with the choil I'd consider it to have an almost full sized handle. But because of the choil it has a pretty short cutting edge for the 2 7/8" blade.
Another pick for me would be a Benchmade Mini Presidio. Really comfortable handle and a beefy pivot and Axix lock.
