Rodent 9 / Scrap yard 911 dilemma

I discovered the no gun scenario when we bought our house. There is no safe way to shoot an intruder from our bed room without risking overpenetration into the daughters bedroom. Major rethink!

I've got to get into the red zone, might as well have something that will work every time, and nothing scarier than an old man in his undies, crazed and half asleep with a sword in his hands. :p

Id be scared... All it take was the undies :) especially if they are whitey tighties... Id run FAST!!! :)

Same here, my room is at a weird angle to both my sons room and my daughters room. I could not safely shoot in any direction if a perp came in and was advancing towards our bedrooms without worry about it entering my kids rooms. No parent wants to take a chance like that.

I don't have any swords so In a situation like that, "IF" it was dark, And "IF" i didn't know what kind of weapon the perp could have, i might grab the KDSH just to keep some room between me and him and to look intimidating. But "If" i could see well enough to know he didn't have a firearm id grab my RMD and close up as much space between me and him as quick as possible.

Some great steel to be sure!...but I still like the M9 best of all! (satin LE's and CG).

I'd pack my Rattlehawk but I'm afraid I'd impale myself on that godawful pointy thing on the back. :o The way I wake up I want all the pointy stuff toward the bad guy if at all possible, :p

Any of the mischief series is a good thing. :)

I got so many replies to this... But none are family friendly :) lmao

The Rattlehawk is an awesome looking hawk, id like to have one just to hang on my wall. I wouldn't use one though, not very practical for anything i would personally need to do. That doesn't stop me from wanting one though.

:D I did second guess myself on that one. :p

Very nice pair of M9's there Andy! Wow!

I haven't heard about that, cool story though. That guy was well trained with that exact weapon.

I can't say anything is better for anyone else. I have defeated in training, a person with a bo staff and all I had was a wooden knife, I have also been defeated with a staff against a wooden knife. Everyone is different and excels at/with different weapons.

Generally speaking a non trained person will do better with something they can maneuver more easily with some reach.

Personally in a self defense situation I'd grab my rmd... But I have trained with knives that size.
I'm not a knife fighter at all but listening to guys who are, they fall in both camps like you said. Training is the key like in everything else. I remember when I first got my RMD. I pulled it out of the box and held it in my hand. It's really the only knife I've had that screamed weapon to me. But in a good way. :D It does have a nice feel to it.
WHAT.....WHAT.....UGLY?......man.... I disagree in a huge way. I think the rats generally look better than even the busse. But everyone is different I guess.

The old line like the RMD and the orignal ratweiler, or even the new rodent solution I very much agree with you. Those are some of the coolest looking knives out there. I just don't like the new R line. Eye of the beholder I guess.

Yea Im with you on that, the ratweiler is one of the coolest knives ever IMO. And the RMD is my favorite fixed blade period for just about anything. I have tried so many knife companies before i ever even heard of swamp rat, i tried them in all sizes, thicknesses, weights, handles etc. But I could always find at least 1 thing that i just didn't like, or that made it not the perfect EDC blade for me. But the moment the RMD hit my hands i knew it had been the knife i was searching for. It was everything i wanted the esee 6 to be and so so much more., i have been through 4 or 5 esee's but none were comfortable in my hand. The RMD falls right into place in your hand. If i dropped it in my palm, i wouldn't have to adjust it. I mean i think they made that knife to my hands exact specifications. Im pretty picky when looking for perfect but the RMD is perfect for me. Ill always have a few.

I agree wholeheartedly, The Rodent series aren't ugly to me, just so different that I'd swear that two totally different people designed them. Up till now they all had a certain pedigree, then the R's. Hard to explain without hurting the designers feelings I know, but the changes are amazing.

I love the Rodent series and although they may be on the ugly side to some that is where I find their beauty and I love my R9. At first I didn't think I would like the grip until I started chopping with it. The handle with the hilt seems to fit my hand like a glove. I have never been a big fan of the Res-C handles as I don't like the way they fit in my hands and the lack of a forward lanyard hole on the ones I use to own. I guess I'm just a Rodent guy as I now have all of them.

There is nothing wrong with Rodent line, I guess they just don't look 'organic' :D like the rest of Rats.
Personally I don't like the handle on R9 (and 7 by default) but have all the smaller ones and they're great.
