Rogers Bone ID exercise!

We haven't talked much about Rogers bone around here for a while. While searching through my old Case collection for Jacks, I came across these two #6231 1/2 Jacks.
One has early Rogers bone (bottom knife) and one has Case in-house jigging. The dye colors are great!! Hard to say which I like the best!! Note the "A" blade on the upper knife.

This pre-war Simmons Keen Kutter junior cattle knife looks like Rogers bone to me, but can't say for sure.

It's very hard to tell sometimes.
The bone handles with Rogers bone are not all identical-looking!!

What exactly is "A" blade? I thought it was just a clip instead of California clip.

I have no idea what Rogers bone is supposed to look like, and looking at the back pics do not shed much light on it for me. This seahorse was sold as “Rogers jigged bone”, for what it is worth.

The "A" blade is a wider, and more extreme Clip blade.
Might be a little easier to see in this picture!

Henry and Ed, those handles are Case-jigged, Rogers-style examples; meant to copy or simulate Rogers jigging. I think Rogers was no longer jigging bone when those were made.

Thanks for reviving this thread, Charlie, I was not a member yet when it was last active. Thanks for the description of the Case A blade, did not know that before. Lots of great knives posted here. Here is a W.R. Case & Sons that I have been told is early Rogers bone. It also is very similar to some of the knives pictured in Sargent's 7th that are described as early Rogers bone.

Here's another W.R.Case, with the same jigging, dyed darker, Dan! Our knives are pre-WWI, and they have an early version of Rogers bone.
The jigging looks like it was cut with square-cut chisel-like cutters, and very shallow.

Charlie, was your SFO Rope Knife supposed to resemble early Rogers jigging?

Yes, Lostball! That is always the dream!!
That type of jigging, can vary quite a bit, because it relies on the jig operator varying the speed and spacing of the "pass". Tuesday's jigging might vary quite a bit from Friday's.

I've been building up a modest collection of Winchester Black Box knives and I like them very much indeed. A couple I use on a frequent basis. I got hold of this nicely finished Small Gunstock last year and was lucky enough to get an original advert with it from its release 30 years ago in 1988. It claims that the series is covered with genuine Roger's Bone and I've heard tell on the net that it was a cache that was over 70 years old when it was bought up and put out on these knives between 1987-92. If that is true or if it's a myth I can't say, but the bone does show variance and is I think at least, very beautiful. Quite thick slabs too which is pleasing in the hand.
