Ron Hood - Hood's Woods?

LOL. Was it the limp wrist release of the tomahawk or the fact that I was FRIGGIN DOING THREE TO FIVE SPIN ATTEMPTS? :D

I must confess...if you were a cross-dresser in San Fran and had a pink-purse, I would have thought you were either waving down a cab with the tomahawk swing or fending off your 300 pound red-neck lover:D

Oops, forgot this is a PG site:D

Dude, I've been practicing since then ,and I can throw accurately all the way to Texas now. keep yer K-POT on at all times... :D

Oh, and we don't call them "rednecks" anymore. The proper, PC term is "Appalachian American." :D

Besides, I've always kept it a secret that Rock Hudson was the inspiration for your screen name... WHOOPS! :D

If you want to get a feeling for the Hoods Videos maybe try the free trial membership to Huntflix. I personally enjoyed videos by John and Gerri McPherson aka Prairie Wolf better than I enjoyed the Hood videos. Because I am into a more primitive survival scene. I really enjoyed my subscription to Huntflix. The only problem being you can annoy the mrs. by watching too many videos.

Hey Aquacopter, I am interested in both primitive skills and wilderness survival (with toys ). I agree with you that the McPherson videos are excellent (other than John's monotone ) but so are Hood's. The McPherson's really have nothing on traps and snares on video, unless there's something in Primitive Wilderness Skills Applied (I don't have this video). The McPherson's have nothing on PSK's, Hood does. Now you can say that if you have the skills, you don't need a PSK. Rather I agree with Andre Francois Bourbeau, that the people who can make fire without matches (and I can), never forget to take matches (and I don't), or something like that.

McPherson's are very informative, but are not easy to watch. This is not meant to put down John McPherson in any way as I respect the man, but his voice puts me to sleep. Hood's are much more enjoyable and easier to watch. This can be important if you're trying to interest people who have less passion about this stuff than we do. Also, although some of the information overlaps, there is really isn't any/a lot of duplication, at least with the videos that I own.

I have Hood's videos 1-11 and 2 of Karen's Cave Cooking 1 & 3. McPherson's -1,2,3,6, & 10. Actually, in looking at McPherson's web site, I may order the PWS Applied.

Fortunately a choice doesn't have to be made between Hood and McPherson -I get them both! :D

DOC, making the videos with Ron and Karen is a hoot! If you think he's funny on-camera, you have to hang around him off-camera. Plus, there was LOTS of funny footage and outtakes that will never see the light of day, and that stuff is beyond funny...:D

He comes across on the tape as being a very personable guy and doesn't seem full of himself like some people do, on their videos, and please don't think this is a reference to John McPherson, because it's not.

I learned a lot of things from his and Karen's videos. One of these days I'm going to have to fill out my collection.

this thread took a very strange and hilarious turn, LOL! :D great stuff though.

Re: Prudential: HA!

We could REALLY have fun at your expense with that second sentence, FLIX, butt we've taken this thread off onto a weird enough course as it is...:D

I think the best video of the series is Volume 11: Solo Survival. Not because I'm featured in it or anything. ;) :D

Seriously, they are probably the best resource for learning skills if you cannot train in person with someone. Seeing Ron dispel myths perpetrated in many books and showing better ways to do things, plus tricks only learned from dirttime, is a pleasure. The drawings in books are often inadequate or unclear for learning skills. Try signing up again for the forum. It's quite active.

hahaha "The mule"

Great stuff hope you stayed away from them morels..:D
