I wanted to help spread the word. Jeff Randall from ESEE put this out this morning and frankly I think any one interested in survival and wilderness skills should try to help out so I am reposting here....

Guys,

We all know Ron Hood. He's the man who set the benchmark in this survival industry that we all now follow. If it wasn't for the Hoods, we would not be where we are, thus we have a deep respect and love for Ron and his family.

Well, Ron is in the fight of his life right now. He has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of Prostate Cancer. And while his VA benefits cover most of the expenses, he is still going to be away during this fight from his normal ways of making money due to tests, treatments, etc.

So, we are asking you to consider going to his web site at http://www.survival.com/ and buy his excellent products and survival DVDs instead of spending money on another ESEE Knife. Please, take the money that you had set aside for your next ESEE purchase and put it towards one of Ron and Karen's excellent products.

Ron's a hard headed, ugly, mean old shit ...but those qualities are the same reason he will beat the cancer. In the interim while their fight continues, we ask that you spend less dollars with ESEE and put those dollars towards Ron's products. It's simply a request. In the meantime the mods and us will try to come up with a way that we can help all of you out who helps out the Hoods by buying their products. We will think of something. Sorry for the rambling but right now we are just trying to think of something and let everyone know what's going on with someone we consider the Master of Wilderness Survival, a friend and a family member to all of us.

Jeff

Thanks for posting this. The Hoods are great people who I have learned a lot from and I'd love to be able to help out. Ron was also one of the original mods for this forum.

I have learned a ton over the years from Ron and his videos. Truth be told, I never knew he was a mod here! Hopefully people can help him out and if nothing else send some positive energy his way. Cancer is evil.

No money set aside at the moment but I'll see what I can do. Until then, my thoughts and prayers go out to Ron and his family.

Ron and Karen are the reason i got into all this in the first place. They have been such good people to deal with. Here's to a speedy recovery.

Thanks for letting us know.

Done and done. Jeff Randall is a remarkable man to steer customers to assist Ron and his family first. Ron is a real American Patriot and we'll put him on our prayer list. He's a real icon in the "survival" realm and it's good see others rallying to help where they can.

I wish the absolute best for Ron.

Jeff is a good man.

Thanks for the info, and I hope this all works its self out.

I'll do what i can ...

Brian

Let's keep up the prayers for Doctor Ron. He's one of the real gurus in the field.

It's always a great time to get a new Woodsmaster video or Survival Quarterly magazine, but now would be an even better time since we have a brother in need. I think I may order a set of the first six Woodsmasters videos for my brother.

http://www.survival.com is the webpage if you haven't been there.

I don't think cancer knows what it's got itself into, this time. Dr. Ron's going to kick its ass.

For those of you who are interested in wilderness survival, and haven't seen his videos, you, gentlemen (and ladies) don't know what you're missing. His videos are very informative, very well done from a technical perspective, funny, at times, and just all around excellent.

I own quite a few of them and, funds permitting (endangered species at the moment :( ), am going to hook myself up with a couple more.

I'm also want to pick up his magazine.

I own other survival oriented how-to videos, and while they have some great information, none, I repeat, none, come close to Hoods Woods videos.

For those of you that read my nail trap trigger thread, the original set-up came from Ron's 'Traps and Trapping' video.

Doc

ETA, I would have mentioned that Jeff Randall is a class act, but I didn't, considering it to be common knowledge.

I'll keep the Hood family in my prayers. When I first got interested in survival, it was a couple of his videos that I got a hold off. He makes the skills look simple, easy, and sensible. He is a true survivor, and hopefully he'll survive this too.

Thank you for the heads up. Ron and his family will certainly get my prayers, and though money is tight right now, I'll make every effort to support his business.

Money is tight because I just finished my third course of chemo and one of radiation 6 weeks ago and my co-pay is $8,000. Takes a bite out of the old SS check and doesn't leave a lot for extra's but we'll manage ... another surgery in a couple months and then quarterly checkups for 3 years.

Folks, your Doc says to get a colonoscopy ... DO IT, and do it promptly, you don't want to hear that you have a stage 3 colorectal tumor, trust me on that.

So speaking as survivor in training, Ron's toughness is all to the good, but truly a positive attitude and the prayers of other folks is critical. In my own case, I HAD cancer, we cut it out (I know ... I was there) and all the rest was just to fry, poison and starve any offspring.*I KNOW I'm going to be okay.

And I certainly wish the same for Ron Hood.

I'll do what I can monetarily, but he gets my prayers for sure ... like it or not!

Regards,
:) ...

Ron has teamed up with Buck knives to start producing his Hoodlum survival blade. They are going to use the same design and materials as the TOPS version, which is an excellent knife.
Pick one up when they come out, you’ll help Ron and get a really unique, proven, bad-*ss, survival knife.

BTW, I think they still have a few of the TOPS Hoodlums left for sale on their website.

If it wasn't for Ron Hood many of us would not be in this wonderful community. I, for one, owe the man a lot. He will beat this cancer and be on the ground running in no time. I have no doubt about that.

Really sad news but Ron is a fierce individual and with a bit of smoke on his side am sure he will vanquish this.

Will see what I can do!

Ron is still his crusty ol sarcastic self folks... He is confident that he'll beat this thing and is by no means "sickly". I just had an email conversation with him today. He was told not to ride a bike for more than an hour... other than that, he is still very active.

Like DocCanada says.... "I don't think cancer knows what it's got itself into."
