Ron Hood needs our help!

One of my closest friends had his prostate removed a year ago last month by robotic surgery. I was AMAZED at how quickly he recovered, they're getting a better handle on this by the day. Ron has every reason to be optimistic.

As a Filipino and FMA'er, I instantly liked the Hoodlum blade the first time I saw it awhile back. Some of our native "multi-purpose" blade designs (itak) bear a strong resemblance to it. If I had the funds I'd get one in a heartbeat!

I'm truly sorry Ron has cancer and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. However, my own experiences with Ron's site weren't all that good. It seemed to be something of a 'cult' site and if you challenged the conventional wisdom, as I did several times, it quickly brought on open rebukes from some of the monitors and nastier hidden attacks in the form of viruses, trojans, and other malware from more 'surreptitious' members. The malware attacks on me began when I challenged the screwball views of the site's so-called resident ballistics 'expert,' a guy who expounded the view that recoil reduces velocity (WRONG!). The malware attacks increased when I challenged the screwball theories of some of the site's 9/11 conspiracy nuts who claimed the World Trade Center attacks were perpertrated by the US Government. At that point, I shook my head in disgust, and bailed out of the site. I also tried to delete as many of my tradecraft/knowledge imparting entries as possible. Freedom of speech is freedom of speech but when a site permits total nuts to push their outlandish theoriies of US government agencies perpretating the 9/11 attacks, I vomit and vanish. As an old spec ops type I can absolutely guarantee you that did not and COULD NOT happen! If you want more info as to why I have that view, say so and I'll respond...!

If it wasn't for Ron Hood many of us would not be in this wonderful community. I, for one, owe the man a lot. He will beat this cancer and be on the ground running in no time. I have no doubt about that.

I with Jeff. I owe him alot too. Ron really helped promote me as a knifemaker when I first started out on the internet. He had enough confidence in my work to feature one of my knives in his Woodmaster Vol 17 series of DVD's.
He and his family have my prayers and best wishes. Ron is tough and will beat this.

I just bought a couple of his videos to watch, and I'm going to check out his site too. My dad has been getting chemo treatment for about 8 weeks now so I know how Ron's family feels.

Man, it's always good to hear other people's feedback on stuff, but to post something negative like this in a thread about a man fighting for his life against cancer, especially on Christmas Day...:thumbdn:

Start a different thread or just say "I didn't like his site" and leave it at that.

It is a public forum. If the man wishes to post based on his own experience and opinion, that is his right. Forums do not exist for everyone to comply with the general direction of the on-going sentiment of the thread. Advising someone to move on, or to go someplace else, simply because you do not agree with his post completely contradicts the whole idea of individual freedom. Freedom being one of the primary reasons we are all here, and participating in what we do. If you do not understand that, then perhaps you are on the wrong forum yourself. Merry Christmas.

my first encounter wit ron was in 1999, i had just started to learn bush craft and wanted to start learning friction fire. i had ordered two videos from ron, there was a special if you bought three, he called me on the phone, told me about the deal, then spent the next 25-30 minutes explaining friction fire how to get it done, all on his dime. never had met or talked to the man before. that isi the kind of guy that ron hood is, there are a lot of knife makers that got their start on rons forum. if someone has had a negative experience on that forum i am sorry, some folks get rubbed the wrong way, i have never heard of anyone sending a virus or trojan from the site and have been there for 10 years. dont know what to say about that. as far as ron is concerned he is a great guy, he has taught a lot of survival techniques and more importantly has recorded them on video for others to learn from. he is one of us and deserves our support in this time of trial.

There are proper forums for stuff like that.... Whine and Cheese, the Feedback forum, etc. It's not appropriate in a thread like this. Period. Yes, you have the right do say or do whatever you choose, whenever you choose. That you choose to exercise that right at an inappropriate time has nothing to do with rights. It's just poor judgement, IMO, morally and ethically. Would you condone the same thing at a public fundraiser, for example, for someone with cancer? Someone comes in and says that they are sorry to hear about it, and then goes on to express negative sentiments about that particular person's business, etc?

My last thoughts about it. I'm not getting involved in a flame war about rights in a thread about supporting someone with cancer. If you'd like to argue it, PM me.

Im proud to call both Ron and Jeff good friends... Ron will beat this no doubt. He's the kind of guy that just wont give up.

My experience is exactly the opposite. They don't tolerate wingnuts or internet experts who've never really left their keyboard.

Wishing Ron well and sending thoughts and prayers his way. Jeff R. is a hell of a guy to put this on his forum. I hope we all can support Ron in our own ways.

Prayers inbound for the Hood family. Finally took the time to buy more DVD's and just bought the Christmas package of 7 DVD's....I'll have alot of info to soak up! :)

Ron is good people. Gave me a bunch of advise years ago that I still use today.. So my order went in last night..
