Rosebud

Dude I am holding my breath here. Already blue in the face Lorien....Tomorrow!? :rolleyes:

Best,
Eric

Lorien,

I made the mistake of buying my first ex-wife gifts that I secretly wanted for myself. She left and took the engraved S&W .22 kit gun and the Winchester Model 12 trap gun and assorted other things. I had mistakenly thought that buying them for her would be a good way for me to get them. Not saying that you are doing that of course, just relating my experience.

Seriously, I hope that your bride likes the knife!

Bill

it hasn't been a great morning for taking photos- it's raining catsndogs- but the sky is clearing up and I have a better spot so I'll be uploading some pics shortly.

In the meantime, here is a picture of the display box for the knife, and the wooden mockup knife that Mike made to get all the numbers lined up;

You'll notice that the final design is slimmer and sleaker than the previous iterations. As the concept of Rosebud took shape, the shapes and lines of the sled started to imbue themselves into the final design.

I plan to mount the knife within the box on props with earth magnets at their ends so that the knife stands proud of the background and looks as though it's floating in air. Again, the theme comes into play. I'm also considering the concept of drilling a small hole in the frame of the box at either end of the knife and installing small, low power LEDs to bring out the contrasts.

Anyway, let me get back to my picture taking, and I'll get some nice shots posted up within a couple of hours.

ok, let's get started;

WOW you definitely got the right guy for the job! Lets see the Full Monty!!!

and, the finale, (seriously- I'd put more shots in here, but the camera just had a coronary and is outta commish til it gets a charge);

For me, it is very difficult to capture this knife wholly- in its entirety. The contrast between light and dark, plus the chatoyance of the mother of pearl makes my camera go into anaphylactic shock it seems. A friend of mine who is an actual photographer, I hope will take some proper shots of this knife, and when/if that happens I'll make sure to do right by you all, and Mike, by posting those photos up.

This knife, as I said before, was no walk in the park for poor Mike. I really felt bad for him as he hit obstacle after obstacle. But he stuck it out, and I will tell you unequivocally that his tenacity resulted in an amazing knife, one of the most amazing I have ever seen.

I am well and truly honoured to be able to make a gift of it to my cherished wife who does so much for me and our family. I can think of no other gift that recognizes how special she is to me than this. She deserves the best, and Mike delivered the best.

Thank you Mike. I greatly enjoyed working, (at the sidelines) on this project with you, and GREATLY look forward to the next!

Oops! Well that's gotta suck! Welds didn't take, Mike found out it was because of the type of kerosene he used. Who'da thunk it?

Spectacular knife! Congrats Lorien, tough to get good shots of the dark knife with the MOP handle I totally understand. Great work Mike that is a really cool one.
