Rosebud

Cool project and a GREAT looking dagger Lorien.....BUT...I don't think you'll make it as a hand model:D

Peter

thanks for crushing my dreams Peter.

Terrific project and a really beautiful knife. Love the mosaic damascus and the way the texture is set off by the smooth pearl. Hats off to both of you!

I am also intrigued by the texture and darkness. Was this planned? I haven't really seen that treatment on any damascus before (that I can remember).

Roger- The pearl may be smooth but must have that grain inside that you can't really see in these photos. I bet that looks cool with the steel texture.

the texture thing was not planned. In fact it bothered me a bit at first, but I think it's only because it bothered Mike and he told me so on the phone, and who am I to argue? I love it and it is, in fact, one of the most intriguing aspects of this piece.

The feel of this knife in hand is amazing. Slippery but grippy and it's weighted perfectly- she's a hefty knife that just wants to STABSTABSTAB!!!

Roger- I have to give you props man. Quite awhile ago you said some very true things about Mike and his work, about how his progression has been meteoric or something fanboyish, (jk) to that effect. At any rate, it was you that led me this way, so thanks!

I've figured out how to mount the knife in the display box and it's pretty cool actually. I'm using- you guessed it- bike parts! They won't be seen, but it's pretty trick.

got the display all figured out.
I used the brake pad stud holder from an Onza cantilever brake as the post and fastened an earth magnet to the top of each with JB Weld and then covered the magnet with 3M stick on vinyl. The brake posts are threaded from the back and bolted to the backboard of the shadow box.

Truly sorry for the crappy pics.

personally, I think I'd like the shadowbox better if it were coated with black lacquer. That can be done down the road, but for now it's pretty much ready for 'under the tree' festivus.

I think it looks good as is my friend but with an ivory silk or velvet or maybe another color back ground would set it off

Imagine the Black Lacquer with ivory back ground or red to go along with the theme

Our daughter got the wooden model. Now, when we visit with Stuart and family, there will be plenty of wooden knives and swords for everyone!

Q Dawg; thank you so much. You were a true pleasure to work with throughout this entire gig, and I'm really looking forward to the time where I've saved up enough to get going on the next project!

You have greatly exceeded my expectations, plus, my wife is well and truly stoked on the knife that you made for her :)
All the best to you my friend!

Sure glad I found this after Lorien was all done teasing everyone :).

Guys that is a beauty with typical Quesenberry execution. Thanks for taking us along on the journey and can't wait to see the next project.

I guess I should say I like it too, but it's just not my cup of tea. Not that I can make such a knife, but well..the different colors, textures..the blade just does not appeal to me. Must be a developed taste thang.

that's about the only thing in your post which doesn't make sense to me. You shouldn't say you like anything, if you don't. It's all good, we're grown ups here and I appreciate you speaking your mind:)

This knife was collaborative in almost every way apart from the actual making of it, and the uniqueness of this piece is the result of a unique collaboration. I had input throughout the process, and it was also made almost entirely to my spec. Very little of the actual outcome lies on Mike's shoulder's, other than the actual construction, fit and finish- which is as flawless as I've ever seen.

Some firsts were accomplished, and part of my goal as the designer of this pattern was to take what I know of Mike and push him somewhere he hasn't been. I certainly pushed my own self somewhere where I haven't been, as far as being a collector- this was a significant investment beyond any other single financial outlay I've yet made. Going through this process has opened new doors in the way I see myself with regards to custom knives. This commitment has instilled a confidence in me that feels new and energizing.

I hope that some of what Mike learned while making Rosebud will serve him as he continues to reach and attain new plateaus in his quest for...well, I can't speak to that. His quest is his and I hope, as a patron and supporter, that he will continue to strive forward in pursuit of it.

Lorien, that is a pretty special peice...
Hey Mike, 2 things...you mentioned there were many firsts, and Lorien mentioned the texture thing wasnt planned...you didnt happen to forget it was in the etchant did ya;)
Seriously, that is pretty cool peice....well done
Cheers Bruce
