Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

Picked up a couple of older RR models, a small whittler in black lip pearl and a barehead single blade peanut. I'm really digging the peanut, it has a larger blade than my other RR nuts, and it can be pinched open.

I sure would like to know where you are finding those mop rough riders. I suspect that's a secret you won't be revealing anytime soon. Nice score..:)

I bought my first RR this past weekend. And it really is razor sharp out of the box. Seems to be a great value knife. I wasnt sure if it was safe to mention that here since its not a CRK.:D I have really become more interested in traditional knives lately. Must mean I'm getting old:)

This melon tester from Frost looks interesting, even though I can see some poorly fit bone in the stock photo.

i bought three large smooth green bone 4 blade congress Rough Riders several years ago from a show room store in Tennessee.
the fit and finish is as good as any quality American made knife. of course the steel is prolly 440A.
paid $5.00 a knife. crazy good for a pocket knife. i suspect they were some of the first and thus the best Rough Rider knives to come from Asia. The idea being, get some really good examples out in the world to generate a buzz.
can't imagine what would happen if RR started using 1095!

This is not the case. Rough Rider traditional style folders have consistently been very good since at least 2007 which is when i bought my first one. Actually they have improved some with certain 'lines' e.g. "Long Rifle" being made to an even higher standard.
I have also bought some RR fixed blades and some of the more tactical style RR folders. None of these have been to as high a standard as the Traditional style folders. Likely the tactical type RR's are not made by the same manufacturer as the traditional style ones.

I know I've mentioned this before, but have you tried the Colt Series of Traditionals?
Especially the Stag Bone, and Buckshot series.....I've tried both, they're really some of
the very best i've seen to date.....I read somewhere they were smkw,or RR owned?..
I love em,

koot joe,
i dig what you said. i have or have had several other RR's and all were darn good. decided not to buy anymore. couldn't justify and don't like the idea of sending treasure over seas. mostly interested in seeing for myself the quality, thought i'd gift these to non knife totin' friends.

I like knives myself...Im not rich, don't really care to be....But there is a double standard that makes
me wonder if we would watch our tv,or talk on our phone,or,or,or,or.....It's ok to buy everything we own
except our pocket knife from over seas?...That's a line of crock i use to use until I thought how it really
made no sense at all....I am buying,Tradeing for, etc. for US made knives anytime possible, but Im not gonna
quit getting things I like just because where it's made....There are only a few good knife makers in
the states.....You have to mortgage your home to be on top of those.....I just can't do it all the time....So I guess
I'll just appoligize for buying items from American owned companies who have their items outsourced....
They just messed us over again today, probably gonna really feel it in next few weeks to....
Im gonna worry more about being ready when our maker splits the skies in a gallup taking his kiddies home....

He's a headed this way,won't be long...
Are we ready?
