Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

I spied an interesting new series incoming to the blue roof foggy mountain store. Called the Rough Ryder Classic Carbon Steel II, they look to have black micarta covers with blue liners and pewter shields. Note they don't say T-10 carbon steel, just "carbon steel blades". Excited to see these since I want carbon but I'm not feeling the shieldless blue denim series.

Thanks for the heads up. I will need the whittler, canoe, barlow, half hawk and scout. Just two days ago I was wishing they would make a single blade half hawk...now here it comes. I think the half hawk is one the RR's best patterns. Its a ram's foot for $15. Now if only they would release this carbon series in smooth camel bone....

I have the same gripe about the stag damascus stockman. The sheepsfoot blade sits so low you can not access the nail nick. Should have sent it back, but just put a piece of toilet paper under the kick - works fine (as long as I don't need it 😉 ). Short kicks seems to be a problem with several RRs. That and the match striker nail nicks which I dislike. May have bought my last RR.

Barlow main nick sits very low on two example.

Thanks the VG-10 was pretty hard, it took a long time using diamond stones to get it done on both sides

Anyone receive one of these yet? I have an order in for the half hawk, whittler and scout. Fingers crossed, they look like they have the potential to be winners if the F&F is good.

I got the swayback. Not an educated opinion, but looks good to me. Pick a few posts up ^^

My bad, I missed that, thanks.

So, I got impatient and decided I could not wait for the single blade half hawk. I took the blue denim two-blade version, ripped it apart and rebuilt it as a single blade. The f&f on this knife was not great from the factory, so it was a perfect knife for the test. I only spent about two hours on it, but it came out pretty good. I also knocked the shine off the blade while I was at it. One thing I learned is that the bolsters are not soldered on, they are pinned - and in this case not very flush on the liner side. This explains the terrible blade rub I have encountered on occasion with RR knives.

edit: I forgot to mention the most important thing, I like it much better as a single blade.

May I ask what the full blade length (or cutting edge length, just specify) is on the main blade of the Swayback? The website shows an overall length of 3.75" closed. I'm guessing its around 2-2.5" including the tang area?

Does it have very stiff W&T due to working on two springs? Cheers
Very stiff main. Probably 2” cutting-edge
