Rough Rider & Related Slipjoints

I just received my first RR and for the most part I am pleased. It's a 3-1/2" mini lockback trapper in smooth tobacco bone. The main blade came rather dull but the spey came hair shaving sharp. In pics, the bolsters appear to be silver but in person, they have an almost "bronze-ish" finish. There are minor flaws with the scales but for the price that I paid (10$) it's acceptable.

I bought a handful of RR knives a while back. One of the first things I noticed was the bolsters appeared really dull.

I think the poster hit the description really right. I can lay the RRs out with similar Cases and the differences are obvious.

Can't complain about the prices, tho.

I notice the differences too, never got an RR knife with side x side play and rounded off tips but EVERY case knife I have ever bought came with it...my case peanut was a total let down (I have to send it in to get some semblance of use from it) yet my small RR knives have been quite enjoyable, still tight and hold an edge just as well as the case counter parts.

PS. nickel silver tarnishes almost like a bronzey color, just put some silver polishing paste (walmart has it for silver cutlery) to them and they sparkle silver again.

Certain alloys of NS can, sure. I think theirs has more copper in it than Case's version- I've 40 year old Cases with bright silver bolsters, and 1 year old RRs with dull yellowish ones.

Which is why I occasionally go over mine with a loaded cloth with the ones I use most, any that get pocket time dont seem to tarnish at all (sliding around i guess).

I have a few in both regular pearl and black pearl. The black pearl is nicer looking , but you're right they're glued on. I've never had one come off under normal circumstances, but one popped off after I dropped the knife on a tile floor. I'm lucky the scale didn't break.

That black pearl has some great depth in that light. Is that a discontinued model, or does Rough Rider make their knives in batches that come in and out of stock?

Just got my first Rough Rider knife. Pretty impressive, especially for the price!

it is more likely to have broken if pinned.
don't you think?
probably better it was glued being it was dropped?
justa thought.
i have a really nice muskrat in black pearl...i nnever carried it though...just been sittin in my collection awhile.
my favorire rr is a pearl single blade copperhead....
really had a hard time finding it too.
only seen one other set of grey/blue single blade copperhead, they wre smooth bone.

No one's posted this new one yet, I think, so here's a real world shot of their basketweave pearl. Fit of the pattern isn't perfect, but it's pretty good, and there are no gaps in the backsprings I can see. I remember when I thought of the Ka-Bar Dozier as a $20 knife; this is much, much nicer:

I believe it is a 755, which the box says. However, the tang of the blade seems to be erroneously stamped "RR985."

Got it in yesterday, it is flawless, no gaps in the liners, blade centering is spot on the money and my wife loved it.

Just picked up my first 2 traditional knives, a stockman and congress from RR. I ordered [online] so they wont be here for a couple days/weeks, but figured its a great way to try out some new blade shapes. At first i was going to get the Schrade Old Timer 44OT since it had all the blades i wanted to futz with, but after doing some "research", i decided to get the 2 patterns from RR. Good choice?
