RP knife usage

I've never really had to use a knife hard. I just simply use them. I think some people go out of their way to see how hard they can be on something.
I often wonder what people actually mean by "hard use". It's not a prybar or a hammer, it's for cutting, carving and piercing.

When mine gets here it will be a user. It is a beautiful knife but as with all RATS they beg to be used. I think the RP knife would feel neglected if it was left unused.

I'm planning on using mine for general use, but not planning on doing any batoning or anything. I appreciate all the work everyone put in to the project, but I don't think it will hurt anyone's feelings if I use my RP knife to....you know....cut stuff.

Yes, I see a lot of people posting and asking what the best knife for "beating on" is or "can't wait to get it so I can whomp the sh@&# out of it". Me, I use my RATS for cutting. In fact just made a batch of venison jerky last night using my RC-3:)

Howdy,

Definately going to use it, but not abuse it!

I rebeveled the edge to a more acute angle and stropped it to a mirror finish.

It came sharp enough to shave hair. Now it's REALLY sharp and ready to do some cutting!

The very tip of the blade did arrive damaged -bent over, like it was dropped tip first. But, being 1095, I was able to straighten it out pretty good. Since I was that far, I went ahead and decided to just rebevel the whole edge. It turned out very nice. I know about the warrentee, but after waiting this long, there is now way I would send it back!

It's a great knife, hard to put down once you pick it up!! I think the contrast between the black and the orange is striking.

Mine will be a user, as I use all my knives. I had to retire some from out of my premises duty, due to law changes. And the RC-3 can be carried legally in Germany (as long as I stay out those "no knife zones" in some bigger cities).

I found out recently that you can buy venison from the hunting authority, and it is quite cheap if you take a whole animal with the skin still on. So I think I might practise skinning deer with mine.

I'll definitely use mine, it's a knife after all. That said, I won't use it hard (other knives for that).

I've got one I'm considering edcing, and one to keep nice. It's a fairly large knife to pocket carry, for me at least, but I'm getting used to it.

As far as the hard-use opinion, well... I've got a sixteen year old buck pathfinder I've taken through hell and back. Looks like I bought it yesterday.

If it was my only RC-3 then I'd totally use the crap out of it--but since an RC-3 was my first RAT, then I'll be keeping my RP knife nice and clean. :)

It's my only rat, i'm going to use the crap out of it till i get another one.

I said "use it hard". I didn't say "abuse it". There is a big difference. Using a knife hard means using it in the woods, to baton and drill with. As opposed to cleaning one's nails, or opening letters and slicing bologna with it.

Well... I purchased two, so I am going to try to keep the wife's paws off the second one and use the crap out of the first one.... then when the knife has all the coats scratched off, and has been resharpened two gillion times, split a few cords of wood, made hundreds of fuzzy sticks..... and we are all sitting around the campfire telling lies... errr stories about our adventures..... I will pull out the untouched RP knife and say... "Yup, this is what my blade use to look like before I had to kill them there two bears with it..... " :D

Seriously thou, the use/abuse discussion..... well I will use my blades... for whatever I need them to do. That is how I started being part of the RAT Pack, by breaking the scales on my TAK 1... during the ice storm last year. Chipping the ice that had built up on my HAM Antenna... it was the only tool I had on hand, and it sure beat the hell out of trying to break the ice with me hands.... I will most likely not use it in an abusive fashion, BUT if it is the only tool I have, and I NEED it to do something it really isn't made to do (digging, prying, etc) it WILL be used that way... Broke my LM yesterday in this exact fashion... prying the door to my car open enough to get a coat hanger in there to unlock it... had nothing else to use on me, and I had to get into the truck... oh well... I don't set out to abuse my knives, but shit happens...
