RR: Kershaw Ken Onion Vapor

Well, anyway since this is a Ken Onion Vapor thread, here is a picture of a handmade Vapor.

Actually, its a miracle he can even drill a hole with those two little bitty anemic drill presses in his shop!!! :p :p :p
:)

just posting cause its not too often you get 4 different guys from the islands posting on one thread.

Aloha:D :p

Mayo is laughing all the way to the bank as he sells his expensive air-filled handles and melts down the massive amount of Ti shavings underneath his drill press to create more and holey-er knives. The guy is still working off recycled Ti from the last century!

:p :p

Really nice Vapor, Jeff. There goes any chance of me being able to live with the Kershaw--thanks a whole bunch. :)

I think that Tom just charges less per hole ;)

Back on topic, does anyone know what steel is used in the Kershaw Vapor?

My question exactly James...both of them.

BTW Ken, that handmade is a beaute

Steve-O!

Jim and Steve,The blade is AUS6A, and the handles are 410 heat treated.I believe they are approx .340 thickness and the handles are rounded by hand. the larger retails at $39.00 and the smaller one retails at $34.00.

[with nose held in high in air] Technically, I believe the those Ti shavings are correctly referred to as "Drillium".

So, the holey (holy?) TNT should be referred to as the Drillium TNT, in my estimation.

Ken, thanks for the information on the knives.

I was wondering if you are able to use the speed safe mech. on a custom frame lock folder?

I do it all the time James, doing a frame lock type construction allows for a slimmer knife and enhanced stability.

Ken,

It was a pleasure meeting you at the BladeShow this year. I would have love to take home your pocket knife. Now, don't let some comments get to you. The same info is not known to everyone. So make judgements which they should. This thread is fun to read. I like that whisper joke..... Later.

Nice design, I just wish it sported the speed assist opening. Since getting my first Ricochet I've become spoiled and can't deal with knives I have to open all on my own.:D
Why did Kershaw stop making the Random Task and Ricochet? I'd like to see some more Kershaw/Ken Onion's with 440V blades and quality handle materials. Maybe polished Olive green (other colors too) G10, carbon fiber, or titanium. I'm sure they sell more of the less exspensive Onion's but it's nice to have the option for those that are willing to pay for the more costly materials. I have plenty of knives I paid more for but the Ricochet is my favorite carry knife.:)

Okay, well since practically everyone else from Hawaii is in on this one, I guess I'll get in on it too.

Sure, I think everyone would agree that we'd all rather have a custom Vapor. But crap, for $40 I'll take a Kershaw one and beat the hell out of it, then take it back to Ken to be fixed. LOL ;)

As far as this joking around about Ken copying Tom or Tom copying Ken, some people might not realize that whole thing is just in fun. If I didn't know these two guys, would think there was a real problem or something. So anyway, for anyone reading who doesn't know these guys, they hang out together (okay fine, Tom drives over to Ken's house! ;) ). It's not sooo surprising that they'd bounce ideas off each other and come up with maybe similar knives - they both have blades made of some metal, they both have handles made out of some metal, they both have some kind of lock, they both have holes for screws, they both have pivot pins, they both have clips, oh and they both have holes in the handle slabs. Anything else I'm forgetting. Okay, so I guess my point is, both knives are very different in style and execution. I don't think holes in knives make them the same.

Sorry for the small kine rant.

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot what forum I was posting in. I have not tested the Kershaw Vapor, so I cannot attest to how great it must be ;) Hey Ken, maybe I can test one when I get home! LOL

... and got it yesterday. Really nice knife for the money. Thin and light. A real plus in my book. The blade is extremely sharp and impressed me very much. Overall I really like it. I've got three Kershaw blades by Ken Onion and I tell you I am pretty happy with all of them. The Vapor II is a nice addition. :D

While we are showing off pics of our Vapors:

By the way, this is the small one. I love it!
