RR: William Henry Knives. Yea or Nay?

Steve B
Thanks for the info. I checked out the W.H. at Stodards that Sing mentioned and was impressed.Reminds me of a Stan Fujisaka gentlemens folder.Smooth action the only thing I didn't like was the way they jigged the bone made it look almost plastic. There is a Chesapeke near me at Quincy Market might stroll over that way during lunch.

It's a Yea from me, that's for sure!
I'm starting a small side fund for a Lancet, perhaps in jigged bone, or maybe a carbon fiber not sure just yet. Here is the one I got at the Blade Show, thought I'd show it off one more time, since we're all talking about William Henry's

It has a Firey Opal in the thumb stud, ivory micarta scales, sterling silver filligree and a beautiful deep blue anodized titanium frame with a liner that locks up very strong, it is truly tougher than it looks! The blade is ground thin enough so it is really a user, and good cutter/slicer. I guess you could say that I sort of like it?

Just scanned in this sheath I made for the knife, pardon the darkness of the edges and the belt, actually they all match the colour of the front, the scanner light drops off so the back is darker.

Oh, OK. You win, Gary. Since you're desperate for a Lancet, and since you've decided to throw in that nice sheath with the T12, I'll make a trade. I'll give you my carbon fiber Lancet (shown above) and, say, $75. But only since we're friends, you understand.

One of the great things about the Blade Show is that you get to handle all those great knives and compare. The WH knives really stood out. They were the smoothest opening and closing knives of any I handled that day, factory or handmade. Very impressive knives! And comparing prices I thought they were more than reasonable. I fell in love with the carbon fiber spearpoint.

Gary,
Great looking sheath! Good job! (Knife ain't too shabby either)

William Henry "Show and Tell" department:

The new T09 Kestrel, in "Fishtail Oak":

wh-kestrel-wood.jpg

A very nice little knife. Useful and elegant.

The T10 Lancet in carbon fiber, with the clip now at the pivot end, for a shirt pocket knife that should ride next to the Mont Blanc fountain pen.

And here's a detail of the Lancet with pearl and the granulated sterling silver bolsters.

By the way, William Henry, like the Internet, is a "global village" operation. The steel crosses the Pacific three times. The versions with the silver work involved materials and/or services from the California, Japan, England, Bali, Russia, and ???

James, great pics, as usual. You are just killing me with the detail of the Diamond Lancet
smile.gif

Is the clip on the CF Spearpoint also pivot up now?

Do you like the Fishtail Oak, and have you gotten a Spearpoint with it yet?

Whats the next special run going to use?

Thanks in advance.

I believe all the carbon fiber models are being switched to pivot-end clips. The CF Spearpoint is supposed to arrive in a few weeks. I like the "Fishtail Oak" as I have a weakness for exotic wood. I know it as "beefwood" at the source (Tru-Grit) where both W.H. and I buy it. Hard, heavy wood from Australia, interesting grain. I should have the Spearpoint in it in the near future.

My overall favorite of the four William Henry models is the Lancet, and it seems to be the best seller so far.

Hello,

I keep looking at the great pics, and the fact that so many of you got to touch those fine knives makes me jelaous. [ :-) ]

I just wanted to continue to overload this page with another image. The finish on this piece is great, and it is one solid little knife. A great bargain for a knife of this quality. The perfect black-tie carry, for the occations when I attend the Opera.

Does anybody know where I can get the old-style Lancet in carbon fiber with the clip on the non-pivot end?

jj

I've just gotten my T-09 Fishtail Oak folder. It's the nicest knife I've owned in a while. The action is incredible. After I handled it, I HAD to have it. If you don't want to buy one, then don't pick it up! Irresistable.

Great scanned pictures. Thank you.

Stjames:

I was considering the fishtail oak with titanium bolster model of the Lancet, but now that you've posted that pic of the MOP/silver lancet, I don't see how I can pass that up. You've cost me like $75, thanks for nothing

Sammy,
Haven't heard from you since you purchased your William Henry.....So let the rest of us know how you like the one you got, and if you have a pic, add it to the growing photo cavalcade on this post you started low these many days.

PS
I just ordered that Carbon Fiber Lancet, can't wait to get that and see how wearing it in the shirt pocket works out, like Will Fennel mentioned.

I apologize for not doing my part on this thread. I did pick one up. (A Spear point w/ jigged bone scales) It is one sweet knife. The fit and finish are as everyone had described, very tight tolerances. The action is smoother than I had expected. I think this is due to the type of washers they use. I ordered from Larry at Knife Art and he had it out to me the next day. Kudos for the service.

The next thing I did was to order a HZ belt sheath from G2. Man oh Man is this ever the way to go... Gary gets the big thumbs up in detail, fit and finish, and overall craftsmanship. This is now my daily carry pocket scalpel.

I took the edge down much thinner than it came from the shop and believe me, this knife is a slicer. I may even take the time to have the bolsters engraved as they take the majority of the beating in daily use and seem to scuff when I am not looking. (Anyone know if they are engravable?)

Two gripes when I first picked it up were that the thumb stud had been peened over to form the checkering on top and this left a sharp lip around it (Bit o' wet/dry cleaned this up quickly) Second was the fact that it has a partial spacer. Since I put it in a sheath, this is no longer a gripe. It also helps in cleaning.

No doubt about it, this is a great little "gent's" knife.

Sam,

Glad you really like that knife, can't
believe you made the edge thinner?
Mine is a real slicer out of the box...
A friend suggested that I have the
micarta scrimshawed but I feel that it
would be in competion with the bolsters
so it works just the way they designed it,
couldn't be happier. Now I can't wait for
my Carbon Fiber Lancet! Neat stuff!!!

Gary, funny you mention it. One of the reasons that I got the bolsterless micarta Spearpoint was to do just that!
