Rubicon available for pre-order!

I know its more than worth the price. I work with carbon fiber all the time and I know how expensive it is! Its very hard to work with and it destroys tools. Not to meantion how toxic it is to work with. Most customs dont even come with carbon fiber. Not even high end knives like Hinderer, CRK, Strider, etc come with carbon fiber. Ill buy one, but I'll probably wait til when they are at the 240 area. I'm sure it'll still be the most I've spent on a single Spyderco even at that price.

305 and 320. Wow.

Thanks. You just saved me the trouble of having to look :p

I love the solid CF, but the price is to steep for me.
I don't ever remember seeing another factory(3' blade) liner lock at that high a price.
It does look great.

It's the S30V that has me scratching my head. Shouldn't be too expensive to grind I wouldn't think. Spyderco does S30V better than most IMO. Is the handle really that expensive? I guess it could also be royalties to the custom maker? Wish I could go there, been excited about this model for a while. Just out of my price range this time Spyderco.

I'll wait until it drops down to $250. That could be 1-2 months after it first shows up.

I can get a root canal and a crown for cheaper. You are making me not feel so bad for my ever increasing insurance premiums. So that's a plus. ;)

Not a bad looking knife, but not for me... It didn't matter how I looked at it, I still can't see $300+. IMHO $150-175 would be what I would expect to see

Oy. I'm still absolutely buying it. I understand the price. That neat pivot. The 3d machined carbon fiber. Titanium. Geared back spacer. Rad blade profile. I get it. Sigh. The wallet says no but the heart says yes...

I'm excited for this one but it's quite steep. I'll see if one falls through down the road closer to $200.

What a great looking knife...that has a very (almost) custom looking feel to it! A bearing flipper, 3D sculpted CF, great looking pivot with matching backspacer and a nicely ground blade! All that for 3 bills! You can't get a custom with half those mods for anywhere near $300. Lots of attention to detail went in to the making of that little blade... Ooh and Ti liners with a Ti pocket clip to boot! I mean what else can I possibly do to it...

Here's the video that sold me.

I think it would look better if the CF scales weren't so shiny. I like CF more subdued, but many others will probably like the finish

This one seems like it's really for big fans of CF. The value seems to lie in the CF and the design.
It's a flipper, and Spyderco flippers, thus far, are kinda pricey.
But yeah, I feel like a lot of people are scratching their heads at the price point. Feedback so far reminds me a lot of feedback on the CRKT Hi-Jinx... Love it or hate it. Get the value, or think it's totally overpriced.

A bit too pricey for me but then again when comparing to a Peter Carey custom Rubicon it's a bargain... Hmmm

On the Rubicon, I have no doubt the CF is worthy of lust just like the Chaparral Stepped Titanium. You have to see them up close.

Also, prices will come down and I'm basing that on my Chaparral Stepped Titanium experience which has an MSRP of $564.95. Initially, they were going for $350-$362! It took a couple of months after initial release and no sales before the prices dropped to about $300 now. There was a period that some dealers unloaded them at $250-$270. I managed to get one at $259. I feel that it's actually worth $300. Take a close look at the amount of time it takes to do that intricate milling on the titanium handles.

Rubicon has an MSRP of $499.95. Most preorder prices hover around $300 right now but it should eventually settle around $265 and possibly lower for a short while if they don't sell well. I have no doubt it's worth it around $265 or less.

That is exactly where I am and why I have it pre-ordered. I had some serious misgivings when they first announced it and think I even posted those misgivings in a thread here. But when it came right down to it - I couldn't resist. I love the knife. I'd bet that we'll be able to get it later for a few dollars less, but BHQ is very good with pre-orders and I wanted to be sure to get one.

Hey it is only money... ;)

Good comparison. I bought the Hi Jinx and love it. So, I guess I'm the kinda guy they are marketing to.
