Ironballs,
Bravado and
nut sak himself:
I don't know why you gentlemen would respond the way that you have regarding the price that I paid for this Busse Ruck Kensei. I can only report what is "factual" as it happened to me. My Ruck Kensei
IS NOT a "secondary market" product as one of you alleged.
Why all the skepticism??
The following is
precisely how this all went down for me (I've gone back and pulled up all the personal emails that I received from Garth):
4 DEC 07: Sent email to Busse Combat Knife Company (orders@bussecombat.com), inquiring about the availability of the Busse Ruck Kensei short sword and that I would like to order one. I additionally mentioned during this email that if they were unable to recreate this particular product for me (it was my understanding from this forum that the Ruck Kensei was a semi-limited production; only ran for a short period of time), that I would be very appreciative if they could point me in the right direction as to whom I may inquire with, that may have one tucked-away on their shelves.
7 DEC 07: Received a reply to my initial email inquiry, from Amy of Busse Combat Knife Company, stating:
"As of right now we do not have the RUCK available. You will have to contact the Custom shop garth@bussecombat.com."
7 DEC 07: Sent email to Garth, referencing Amy's email reply and indicated to Garth that I
"had heard this particular Busse product had a limited run.... but it is my hope your Custom Shop might be able to work something out for me... Or, perhaps you could point me in the right direction for acquiring this particular Busse product."
10 DEC 07: Received an email reply from Garth stating the following:
"Sir, I do not have any Ruck blade blanks left right now. It is something we could make through the custom shop however right now the custom shop is running between 6-8 months behind. Not saying it isn't possible to have one sooner if a slot were to open. However running it through the custom shop does make the price go up because we have to cut the blank out by hand. Price would be somewhere in the $600 range. If you get the order in we will start as soon as a spot becomes available otherwise I would suggest you keep an eye on the For Sale Forum on bladeforums.com as I have seen a few come up for sale there in the past. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask and I will do my best to help you out. Thanks, Garth Reckner, Busse Combat."
10 DEC 07: Sent email reply to Garth's reply, thanking him for responding and informing him that I am a forum member of BladeForums.com; that I had posted a thread here under the "Wanted to Buy: Knives" sub-forum weeks ago for a Busse Ruck Kensei, but to no avail. I informed Garth that
"I would like to be placed on the waiting list or order list at the Custom Shop for manufacture and purchase of a Busse Ruck Kensei short sword." How do I go about placing the order?
10 DEC 07: Reply email from Garth stated,
"If you are interested in placing a custom order, just email me and we can get it set up."
11 DEC 07: Submitted the following email to Garth:
"Thank you Garth! YES, I would like to place a custom order for one Busse "Ruck Kensei" short sword. What else do you need from me in this regard? (i.e., credit card info; mailing info; etc.) Regarding this "custom order", I would like the Ruck Kensei blade to be finished in "urban gray" with "aluminum handles/scales." May I order the Kensei like this???? With placing this order, will I receive some sort of order confirmation number? (Or a "waiting number"?) Many thanks, and you've made me a very, VERY happy man. I am willing to wait months if need be for this exemplary Busse product."
11 DEC 07: Received the following email reply from Garth:
"We can do the blade in urban gray however I do not have any aluminum handles left and no longer have the tooling to make more. I have handles in tan or black canvas micarta and a variety of different color g10. Let me now if any of these options will work for you. Thanks, Garth"
11 DEC 07: Sent the following email reply to Garth:
"The options you've provided will absolutely work. I would like the Ruck Kensei's handle made out of black canvas micarta. I went to www.bussecombat.com and searched around trying to learn more about this "G-10" handle material... but I couldn't figure out what the difference is between it and the canvas micarta? Anyway, I am sure the black canvas micarta will look terrific with the urban gray blade finish. So, ummmm.... do you assign me some sort of customer/job order number to waiting list? Thanks, Gary"
18 DEC 07: Received the following email reply from Garth:
"We will get started ASAP on your RUCK with black canvas micarta handles and urban gray blade. I will let you know when it is finished to get payment info in line. Thanks, Garth"
So there you gentlemen have it. Garth left a voicemail message on my telephone on or about the 14th of January, informing me that my Ruck Kensei short sword was completed and that I needed to return his call to work out the payment and shipping details.
I telephone and spoke to Garth, and at that time he asked me whether I desired to have the Busse Custom Shop's logo laser enscribed on the Ruck's blade? I told him that I did, and prior to passing my telephone call up to the Custom Shop's front office (so that I could provide them my credit card info and shipping address), Garth told me the enscribing would be completed that morning and the blade should be in the mail to me by the following day.
The blade cost me exactly $547.00, excluding the shipping fee.
As previously mentioned from the get-go of this thread, the Ruck Kensei arrived at my residence this past Saturday. That means from date of my initial inquiry (December 4th) to receipt of the blade, it took
less than TWO months. Hey, I'm as dumbstruck by that as the rest of you.
If a select few of you gentlemen can't swallow these facts.... I've got nothing left to convey to you.
Respectfully,
~Gary
