Ruger 1911!!!

I am also kind of surprised that it took Ruger so long to produce their own 1911. They have been making frames for at least one well known
1911 for years. Ruger is one of the best manufacturers of investment cast products. At a MSRP of $800, I think they have a winner. For one
thing, you may notice that they put Made In USA right on the slide. That's a biggie these days. Many of the popular brands of 1911s are made
elsewhere. One company who's name I will not mention, hides the country of origin under the grips.

I like Rugers, but when it comes to a 1911, I will stick with my Kimber!

I am not a fan of grip safeties but may try a 1911 if it's made by Ruger. There has to be someone who makes a grip saftey replacement instead of using electrical tape. Beside doesn't the 1911 have like 4 or 5 "safeties"?

I've seen a few 1911s that had the grip safety removed or pinned.

If you're going to go to all of that trouble, it might be easier to find a gun that does not have those issues.

IIRC, the original 1911 design did not have a grip safety.

Grip safeties are nice, it's a better saftey option than a firearm that won't fire unless it has a magazine in it IMO.

As for safeties of a 1911:
1) "Single Action only" (considering you have to cock it in order to fire, but you only have to cock it once. This is if your hammer is down on a live round)
2) Grip safety has to be depressed
3) The slide lock has to be taken down (but it can only be engaged if the hammer is cocked)

1911s are pretty safe guns, as long as you don't have the slide lock disengaged when you holster and you acidentaly pump a round into your leg (which I've heard of people doing).

OK Idahoskunk, you have to tell me who made your custom Colt - the blued one whose grip is the lowest in the picture. The small thumb safety and the nice wood does it for me. Whose work is it?

Loaded chamber indicators are pure failure. (snip) They are ugly, unnecessary, and a deal breaker.

Do you even know what the LCI is on the SR1911? It's a tiny notch in the barrel hood. Springfield Armory has been using the same LCI in its 1911s since 2001, I believe. I'm willing to bet it's been the cause of exactly ZERO failures. And if you hate it that much, you can just have a new barrel fitted.

There are plenty of things to beat up Ruger for. Like Uncle Bill's co-authoring of the AWB or the fact that they seemingly have a recall for every new gun they release. No need to make up reasons.

Ugly and pointless/unnecessary is plenty of reasons.

Well gents...I will be picking one up upon its release and I will put here through an EXTENSIVE review for future reference

I like it. The slide is cast, but Ruger pretty much wrote the book on casting. They do it for everybody (and I do mean everybody) else anyway. It uses Novak sites which are nice, it has no Series 80 style firing pin safety (it's build like the Series 70 Colt), it has no magazine disconnect safety and it doesn't have an ambidextrous thumb safety (even though I am a lefty, I like it this way). The mainspring housing is solid steel and has 25LPI checkering and it doesn't have front slide serrations (I don't like them). All in all, it's a win for me.

As for the loaded chamber indicator, it's just a simple cutout at the very top of the barrel over the chamber. It seems practical to me as opposed to inching the slide back to see if a round is chambered (and yes, for you politically correct weenies, all guns are always loaded).

I am anxious to get my hands on one. Ever since Bill Ruger died, the company has been doing some really amazing things in my opinion.

Well, it's the 1911 I've been wishing SOMEONE would make at an affordable price for years now. Skeletonized hammer and trigger, flat MSH, NO FRONT COCKING SERRATIONS!!! :D:D:D . And it's in matte stainless steel and US made to boot, I couldn't ask for a better setup, in fact before I lost my ass on dental bills I had a custom Yost on order with almost exactly the same specs, this one ain't as pretty but it'll do. Need to sell some stuff and I'll be getting one, don't wanna wait too long cuz I'm afraid the lawyers will start adding BS warnings all over the gun.
