Rumor of happenings between Ontario and RAT Cutlery

My Dad loves pocketknives. I got him several from Queen. Every one of them broke under minimal to moderate use. The shield even fell off of one almost as soon as he got it. From my experience, if they are selling well, it must be by collectors who aren't using them. I don't know. Maybe I just happened to get 4 consecutive ones over a period of 2 years that were all bad?

I have a queen dogleg jack that has weathered many HARD uses. yes, the edges come like crap, but the knives I own from queen are solid and good quality.

Besides, they DO sell well and a lot.

let me be perfectly clear, however, I will NOT buy ANY Ontario products until this is settled, PERIOD.

Ontario, not Jeff and Mike. That post made a lot more sense in my head at the time. Looking back at it now, even I was like "Who the hell was I talking about?" hahaha. Must have been the booze talking.:D

LOL!!! thanks for clearing that up. i was sincerely confused.

take care,
brett

My Dear Friends,

I have just dispatched a polite but very pointed email directly to Ontario's CEO. I will neither purchase nor use Ontario products until they begin behaving in an above-board fashion and settle this like gentlemen. Bad form on their part.

My very best wishes to RAT Cutlery!

Wouldn't you threatening to endorse their products scare them more Doctor??? :D :D :D

I have never owned a RAT Cutlery blade, but I have owned several Ontarios. I won't own any more as long as this is going on.

Well, I have to ammend my vow. I won't own any new Ontarios as long as this is going on. Tarmix listed a machete in orange G-10 and I couldn't resist :foot:. Jeff, maybe when all this is over, RAT should get into the machete business. A nice, thin RAT machete could fill a niche.

Ontario/Queen's parent company is Servotronics.

John, thanks for the info. Sorry for not getting back to you guys quicker, but I've been really busy this week because of market volatility.

I can't find anything special that's not already public info. If you want to see the entire company's statistics, including institutional holders (they're a great bunch to pressure), cash flows, and K-1 statement, go to Yahoo Finance and put in the symbol SVT.

Very well said; I stand with Jeff & R.A.T.

Shakespeare: "That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet . . ."

If R.A.T. can't use the name R.A.T. when this is over, I'll still buy their products, whatever name they decide to DBA. (I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that.) Jeff and the folks there are still the same good folks they've always been.

"Trust me, we ain't going nowhere . . . "

In the end, money & corporate size may dominate in this case, but even if Ontario drops this case, I doubt I'll ever buy any of their products again. The very fact that they would consider this course turns me away from them for good.

thx - cpr

I don't think there's going to be an issue of us using the name RAT Cutlery after talking with our attorneys. RAT Cutlery is going forward.

BTW: We still have not received any letter from Ontario's attorneys. Someone did email me to say that Ontario had changed their website for the Randall's Adventure knives. They removed the web site links to us and changed some wording. No fears, we had already saved a copy. ;)

maybe it's a conspiracy against my server :D

It is absolutely not there when I go to it. Oh well.

Yep ...still there..I just Googled Ont.Knives and here is what I got

Featuring the finest in American Made edged products.
Functional and Collectible!

In 2002, Ontario Knife Company entered into an exclusive collaboration with the professional survival training team Randall's Adventure & Training.

The handle slabs are attached to a full tang and secured with stainless steel screws. Each knife also features an extended pommel with lanyard hole.

Plus list/pics of knives from the RTAK-TAK-RAT7 with RAT logo in upper right corner...

Ahhh...I see now. We're talking apples and oranges. The original page had text that spelled out www.ontariorat.com and www.jungletraining.com and even said that the Ontario RAT official site is www.ontariorat.com. That is gone now and that's what I was talking about. The RAT logo and rest of the info is still there and the RAT logo links to our web site. They forgot to remove that ;) Anyway, the page is still the same except for the removal of our direct links and some other text about our knives.

The original page was up about 3 days ago because that's when I saved it to disk. It's changed sine then.

I see. I'm sure the logo will be removed, now that it's been mentioned. They obviously have someone watching this discussion.

OK, anyone out there that hasn't bought a new RC knife to support rat cutlery yet?
Forget the e-mails, it's a win-win situation if there ever was one, I can't wait for my RC4.

They can have all the "watchers" they want. They obviously haven't learned Rule #1 from business ethics: "Just because you can doesn't mean you should." :foot:

The customer may not always be right, but he's still the customer.
It pays to stay polite, even if you have to tell him he can't have what he wants.

Ontario has antagonized a lot of actual, bill-paying, customers.
I think we should all regret that. Businesses should be smarter than that.

But face it. How many people would buy a budget version from Ontario once RAT Cutlery was in full production, even at slightly higher prices? They were probably trying to get any piece of the action they could, knowing the big bucks would be going elsewhere.
